The link was a little slow to load but this certainly looks promising although it's not expected to hit the market till 2005 and certainly I'm curious as to the quality of sound and cost. I certainly could make use of wireless earphones since I'm constantly getting tangled up with the iPod's earphone wires when I work out. I've had the wires snagged on a bar and the earbuds rudely yanked out to my dismay.

This seems like one of those bluetooth gadgets people were expecting about a year ago. It's a great idea, and if excecuted well and cost effectively, I think it will sell well. I guess we just have to be patient for bluetooth to reach the potential that it was hyped to be.

lets hope they made it sound better than my bt headset. it sounds pretty crappy and the connection has pops and static depending on where my phone is located.

I really wonder what it sounds like because bluetooth does not have enough bandwidth (theoretical max 1MB/s = 125KB/s, in practice more like 50-60KB/s) to transfer CD-quality uncompressed stereo sound (176KB/s).

If they transfer compressed sound and have decompression handled by the receiver module, how would they deal with encrypted AAC files? If they let the iPod decompress and then compress it again for Bluetooth transmission, quality will suffer.

Also, I don't like the fact that I still have to deal with cables. What's the point of having bluetooth in this case? Why can't they make headsets with the receiver built right into them?

I think the blue tooth is simply for the command channel for the remote control and so the transmitter/ipod would turn off/pause when the headset gets out of range.
The audio would be sent over a standard low power transmitter like other wireless headsets, video cameras and such.
