Maybe this is normal, but it seems that nearly every time I open Cydia, I get a "Downloading Release" message at the top of the screen!
Now, this always finishes without any errors and it doesn't happen EVERY time, but so far it has happened probably 6-10 times in a 3 hour timespan.
Is that normal? Maybe this just means that a lot of new content was added recently.. I don't know. Just wondering if it's normal or not.

Cydia doesnt run in the backround, so whenever something is updated, it will load the info for it. Notice how if you open it, let it download, close it, and open it 2 seconds later it WONT do it (unless something was added in that timeframe).

Gotcha. Just wanted to verify.
While we're on the subject..
Say I want to compile 5-10 images or so to cycle every 15 seconds for my background.. how do I do this? Is there an app on cydia or installer that is really good for this or do you have to do some crazy html editing to accomplish this?
I just hacked my iphone today, and i am completely and utterly amazed by the thousands of things available for download through cydia. Truly awesome.

I know there is a theme that cycles through several pictures as the backround, perhaps if you got ahold of it you could edit it and then load it up on your ipod?
Im srry I dont have the name of the theme, but im sure a google search will help you out.:)

this is what APT does; it cannot function without loading the cached package list into memory. on modern desktop hardware, it happens so quickly that if you blink, you'd miss it. but on an older computer (or comparably fast iphone handset) it takes a bit of time.
and if you think APT is slow, my god, you should see yum. i get up to refill my water if i'm starting a yum transaction on one of the 8-way xeons at work.

try macbackgrounds on cydia. That will cycle through a set of 16. You can ssh in yourself and put your own in. It's pretty sweet.
