Guis, how much more discount ADC gives over a regular Student discount on a default configuration of a new Mac Pro, dual CPU? Is it still 20% vs 10%?

It depends.
For my Mac Pro configuration, I'm getting 25% off the regular store.

25% just happens to be the once-a-year discount for Apple employees.

I'm sure that BTO options add to the overall discount, so a base configuration would be about 20% off, yeah.
Oh, and it wasn't 10 grand. ;)

ADC Select is showing a $500+ discount, about 20%. You can get the $2500 Quad for $1999. Not too shabby.

I just ordered mine today. With the ADC discount, I saved about $800. Even if you figure that the ADC Select is $499, that's still an extra $300 savings from the business store pricing.

it depends where you are, the UK Higher Education store gives 16% off without the hassle of ADC... I decided to hold off with the ADC and try to use it to get snow leopard cheap ;)

For a Mac Pro setup, ADC discount is -20% for everything in your setup/BTO options except monitors which are -10%.

apple developer connection.
It's for software developers and IT professionals, you have to pay for a yearly membership from apple($500/yr for basic and $3500 for premiere). You get discounts on hardware and tech support you wouldn't get without the membership, along with other benefits.

Thanks for clarifying this. :)
So a person from a non-developer/IT background can't apply for this?

I don't believe that you can link directly to the ADC store. The link works for me, but I have an activated account.
You can link to the page right before it and have people click the link into the store for it to work.

I know it sounds weird but I was also able to access the store and see prices using that exact same direct link way before purchasing an ADC Select membership.

Anyone can see the prices(I think). I just direct linked it and you have to use the click trough.

Does anyone know what the ADC student discount is? I'm guessing less than the 'select' ADC discount. I can get the 8x2.66 with 8GB for £3,400 with student discount, so if the ADC is substantially better I'll go for that. I'm not technically* developing software though - in case Apple have spies checking this sort of thing.
* in any way, at all.

Depending on your configuration, it is 20% to above that.
Mine was a 25% discount.

Ooh...
Was there any sort of check to see whether you were a developer or doing a computer-tech related course?
£800 off would be quite nice!

Just looking through the website and T&C, they do state quite often that it's specifically for developers, and hardware is to be used for those purposes. Does anyone know if they check stuff re. course specifics or not? Otherwise I'll just go with the normal student discount, which still knocks a few hundred quid off.

Just reviving this in case anyone has gone through the student ADC process and knows how stringent they are with checking 'developer' credentials. If I can get 20% off and the only thing they need is proof of student status, awesome. But if I have to prove I'm specifically studying something along 'apple development' lines, then regular student discount will suffice.
Anybody know?

Yeah, you actually have to sign up for a Student Developer account. You have to send them photographic proof of enrollment (ID and schedule), and then they confirm your assets.
I'm still waiting to hear back from them to get my hardware purchase asset back... I get the feeling that I'm not going to GET it back.

They just look at your courses, but I was in architectural studies when I got my mbp and it didn't matter.... I just wish I could have gotten another student adc discount for my new macpro... might have made the 2.66 octad reachable.... alas 1 per lifetime

I'm doing a PhD in Computer Science so I guess I'd qualify but if the discount is only 20% with the standard student discount in the UK at around 16 or 17% then you only get an extra 4% say which on a £2.5k computer is £100 but then you have to pay £60 for the ADC student membership (in round numbers) so it is a lot of hassle for a saving of maybe £40 or less on a £2,500 computer.
Sorry, that was a rather long sentence!
If it is 25% and the spend is larger then it perhaps starts to get worthwhile.

How do you like it so far, especially in real world use with multitasking? Also have you ever owned the previous gen 2008 8 core models to notice any difference?
