I am doing a budget workbook for a class. What apparel to buy a sports team, equipment, paying officials, etc. In the end, I added up to get the subtotal and then subtract it from the total revenue. Am I supposed to get a negative number?

If you get a negative number you have a deficit as in you've over spent your budget. If that doesn't sound plausible I'd make sure your figures are accurate.

If you had more expenses that revenues then you would get a negative number (net loss). If this is the case you may want to decrease your expenses or increase your revenues (if possible), unless your teacher allows you to budget for a loss. Most of the time you should be budgeting to at least break-even, if not have a net income.
