I tried to install Leopard on my powerbook G4. I inserted the disk (legitimate disk) and it got to the screen to select the drive to install and the install stopped because my hard drive wasn't set up right or something like that. I quit the install thinking I could just re-boot back to tiger and now I can't boot to anything. I can hold down C and boot to the install disk but I don't know what to do from there. Like an idiot I didn't back up my HDD before starting the process so I really need to be able to access my files before I do anything that will result in losing data.

Your files may still be there, but the drive is just not bootable. In the installer, go to Utilities -> Terminal, then type:

ls /Volumes/Macintosh\ HD

If you've renamed your hard drive, substitute the new name, with any spaces preceded by backslashes as in the above example. That's a lowercase L.

See anything in there? It should give you a directory listing.
