I just ordered mine yesterday and it was shipped from the states instead of China. I'm guessing they just have all the stock in the US?
Any thoughts?

 Those guys are commies? They why are we seeing a rudimentary free market?
I kid, I kid. Yes, practically everything Apple sells is Made in China. I think the only thing I own that wasn't is the Mighty Mouse that came with my Mac - Made in Malaysia. No chance in hell Apple would manufacture anything in the USA. It would eat into those 30-50% profit margins they enjoy.

What?
$599 for a slot-less computer with no keyboard, mouse, or LCD monitor?
$200 more for an extra 1 Gig RAM and a 360 Gig hard drive?

Macs have been made in China for years... and they're great quality units.
I just ordered a new MacMini CTO (base model, 120GB, 1GB RAM, but with 2.26GHz CPU) from the AppleStore online... within several hours I received an e-mail that FedEx had picked it up in SHENZHEN CN and it was on it's way to me in Washington State, USA. Scheduled to arrive Tuesday. It's going to be a long weekend waiting. :( Oh well, I've got 6 other Macs to keep me busy (I own a portrait photography studio - all Mac)... but I've been wanting a Mini for a long time.
MacMall "appears" to have the 2.26GHz units in stock ready to ship as well. But a phone call is required to be sure. I am sure they were made in China, however.

Quality has gone down the they are no longer made in the US or Ireland.

Could be. Fortunately, however, the half dozen or so Macs I have which were made in China have performed flawlessly.

If the quality has gone down, it's not because of the country where they're made, it's because of Apple. They want to keep prices low and profits high and they choose the cheapest raw materials.
It's good that they build 'em in China because employers has much better work moral than in USA

I think you are getting China and Japan confused.

No I'm not. Factory workers get usually ridiculously paid so their moral is low (it can be compared to MC's burger flippers who spits to burger). But in China and other "poor" Asian countries they are happy if they even have a job so their moral is quite high.
Japan is a different thing, they have high education

Not all of them. My 2008 Mac Pro dual quad 2.8 was manufactured in Rancho Cordova, California, a suburb of Sacramento.

Bigbird... I stand corrected. I checked my own MacPro Dual Quad-Core 2.8 and at the end of the serial # on the plate on the bottom of the interface panel the letters "USA" appear. I presume that indicates a USA-made MacPro? All of my iMacs and MacBooks were made in China.

They might have standard models here already. I ordered a 2.26 GHz model and it was in Shenzhen, China last Thursday and on my doorstep today.

And China doesn't?
Not to the same degree. Japan = 99% adult literacy, while China = 90%.
Also, according to the 2007/08 Human Development Index for education, Japan = 0.946 (8th in the world), while China = 0.837 (81st in the world).

Well, I ordered mine on Sunday and was pleasantly surprised to see it ship a few hours later because of time zones... it was already Monday in China.
now i just have to wait 4 days for it to arrive from across the world.

and how do you figure this? from propaganda photographs? "higher" morale than if your job in China is to work in a coal mine? perhaps, high morale as a whole? i highly doubt that

My 2.26GHz base model Mini arrived this morning (Monday) from China. I ordered it on the Apple Store site last Wednesday. And also ordered a Hitachi 7200RPM 320GB drive and 4GB of RAM from Other World Computing. The FedEx driver brought both packages at the same time... what timing!
I fired it up, all worked as it should, so next I prepped the OR for surgery, laid out my instruments, opened her up, dropped in 4GB of RAM and a 7200RPM 320GB Hitachi drive, sewed her back up again and she's hummin' along better than ever! Great computer! Better than the top of the line Mini for about $876!
$749 2.26GHz base model
$67 Hitachi 7K320 HDD from OtherWorldComputing
$60 4GB RAM from OtherWorldComputing
and now I have a brand new Fujitsu 120GB drive to sell... or to set up as a mobile StartUp Drive.
Surgery went very smoothly and easily. Just followed instructions and it was a piece of cake! :p

Elk Grove and Rancho Cordova are basically one in the same. Elk Grove is also a suburb of southern Sacramento. The reason I mentioned Rancho Cordova for the MP was that was the point of origin for the shipping, not Elk Grove.

I placed my order this evening, Mac mini CTO + Time Capsule, and quickly rang up Apple and asked for shipping them together. The guy on the phone said the Mac mini is shipped from overseas, so both items will ship separately.
