Itunes wont update

ive got itunes 8.01 and 8.02 is the latest. ive tried installing 8.02 and it doesnt do anything. itunes wants me to update but software update doesnt think anythign needs updating. i have 10.5.6

If the download iTunes 8.0.2 DMG won't install, you may have to remove iTunes 8.0.1 manually before installing. Steps to do so can be found here.

how will that affect my itunes library? i know it wont delete the songs but will i have to spend a few hours letting it all import back in?

The iTunes library file is stored in your Music/iTunes folder. Removing iTunes (the application) will not make any changes or alter that file in any way.
