Can't get Gmail and Mail.app to play nicely

Im trying to get my Gmail.com information to sync up with my Mail.app. Problem is, anything I sent/trash on GMail.com does not show up on the Mail.app....how do I fix this? I'm using POP3 settings in Mail.app
