how can I add a texture on google sketchup

ok so when I use the paint tool and I get the texture I want and it just makes it a solid color instead of the texture thanks in advance

File/Import/choose all supported textures/select use as texture not image/Scale image on surface/Volia

I think this is a preview issue? On the top toolbar you should have six buttons which show the preview type. The fifth one along is 'Shaded with textures'. Click this and you should see your textures. See image below.
