Will the upgrade version of Vista Home Premium install on a mac? I think it requires booting from the dvd and holding down a key combination??? Not sure... I know it can install over itself to become a full version, but I was just wondering if it can even install the first time. Thanks

Also I was told to run Vista 64 because it's more stable, but wow, that thing is expensive! Does anyone know somewhere cheap I can get the 64 bit version?

No.
Upgrade version is designed to upgrade an existing copy of windows.

I've never tried this but there is a step-by-step here: http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/winvista_upgrade_clean.asp. It's legal too as long as you own an upgradeable version of Windows.

It works perfectly on Macs. Of course, to be legal, you should have a license for a previous version of Windows that you will be "upgrading from" on the machine, even though that upgrade didn't actually take place.

Note also that you can legally get a copy of Vista Home Premium 64 bit for "System Builders"/Original Equipment Manufacturer/Original Equipment Installer (OEM/OEI) from NewEgg for less than the cost of an upgrade edition.
