Sorry dont have the specs with me. Can the 2.8 MP Octo handle SATA II HD and SSD connections? Or can it only handle SATA. From what I understand 3Gb/s data transfer rate equates to SATA II. And I think the 2.8 MP has this speed on the Bus. Can anyone confirm?

Yes, the 2008 Mac Pro is provided with 3 Gbit/s SATA II interfaces. But anyway, SATA is backwards compatible. SATA II drives can be connected to SATA connectors and vice versa.

SATA II is a misnomer. There is no such standard.

There is no such thing as a "SATA II" drive. There are SATA 1.5Gb/s and SATA 3.0Gb/s drives. There will be SATA 6.0Gb/s drives at some point too.

Atto's already made HBA's that can control 6.0Gb/s. :p
