iTunes Visualizer problem

My daughters visualizer has ceased to function. You can activate it but all that appears is a black screen. If I opt to show frame rates it does, around 28fps, but there's nothing there. I thought upgrading to iLife 04 would fix it but it's just the same. If I throw out her prefs will it loose her ratings for songs, I'm reluctant to try without asking.
She has a 1Gig Pb with 512 MBs and is running 10.3.3

Information about songs (including ratings) is stored in ~/Music/iTunes, so you don't need to worry about that. Try moving the preferences and see if it fixes it. If it doesn't you can just move them back.
