Phone recording on G4 iBook

I want to record, with permission etc, phone calls and was wondering if the modem can be used as an audio input whilst using the phones handset.

I have a brother fax/copier, line in/out so have a lead to the modem input.

Any ideas

yes I know I can use a usb mic and accoustic coupler but wish to have better quality
