I've looked through System Preferences and can't find a way to stop pressing keys or clicking the mouse from waking up the computer. Has anyone been successful in doing this, or am I out of luck?

Yes. Sometimes the cat jumps up and hits some buttons, which wakes up my Mac. I'd rather just use the power button.

Not sure if there's such an option for disabling the keyboard or mouse from waking up your Mac, but you can set the Energy Saver preferences to put the computer back to sleep - say after say 20-mins of inactivity - in case the cat turns it on when u are not home, etc.

Wireless mouse and keyboard would do the trick. You can turn them off.
