Number next to "Applications" in iTunes?

I'm not sure whether this belongs here or in the iTunes forum, but something has been nagging my curiosity. The "Applications" section on my iTunes used to have a 1 in a bubble next to it. Now it has a 3. What does it represent? I have more than 3 apps downloaded for my phone.

It represents the number of updates available. So, 3 of your apps can be updated to a newer version. Select your applications, select the update button in the bottom right-hand corner of the window, and it should load a page showing the available updates. Once updated, the number should disappear.

That was what I thought, but when I go into the app store on my phone it says no updates are available. In fact, before it said 3 I just downloaded 2 updates. Hmm... 1+2=3. :confused:

Sometimes happens to me. Just quit iTunes and re-launch.

Maybe you had already applied the updates on your phone? After updating apps on the phone, they'll still show that they're not updated till you sync your phone to iTunes. Then the updates will transfer to itunes.

If you have apps on the computer that you have removed from the touch, they still count for the update count on iTunes. So you may have 5 updates on your touch but iTunes can say 7, meaning two of the apps needing updates are no longer on your iPod. :)

This can also happen if you bought apps under two (or more) different iTunes accounts. If you are not logged into the iTunes store under the account that the application was bought with, you won't see the updated apps when you check for updates.

I also noticed that this happenes with apps that have been shared with others.
