Just started Nerdcore HipHop Advice On 8 bit and punk sound

I have been using garageband to make nerdcore stuff( @ http://goblinmajick.com ). I'm trying to add a little flavor of punk, and some 8bit sounds in there. I just downloaded ReNoise to use VST plugins with but I was wondering if anyone had some general advice in how to start moving that direction.(Yes I am aware my music/vocals are awful)

Get real Drums as well as loops. Helps to have real drums in there. Also get a small guitar amp that is really crappy. That should give you the "punk" sound you are going for.
