Non functioning Ipod

I recently bought an Ipod off ebay(today), the link is here- http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3089814158&category=41002 . Anyways, the seller had a problem, formatted it, and then after that, he was only able to upload some songs. I know this is a simple fix, as the rest of the Ipod works. Can someone post some steps of how I would format it for pc, and some other ways to troubleshoot the problem once I get it. Thanks.

Here is site that descibes rebooting, disk scan, diagnostics mode, etc. Don't know if it will help. Good luck...

I hope it is a simple fix, but sounds like bad sectors on the hard drive reading the description.
