My sister is in the market for a Mac. She's currently using a Dell and is sick and tired of it's unreliability.

She wants a Powermac G4, with a CD-RW and about 40GB HD. She says she'd like to pay not much over $500. She'll probably sell her Dell though and just keep the monitor to use on the Mac.

Can someone reccomend me some places to buy used/refurb Powermac G4s?

I'm assuming that all G4 Powermacs come with built-in ethernet?

If not, I guess I can easily put a PCI NIC in there for her.

Anywho, how is 533mhz speed-wise? Will she notice it lagging?

And as for Dual-Processor systems...are they really THAT much better than single processor ones?

$500 may be hard without going on eBay.

Smalldog.com has one for $1000.

powermax.com has G4s for around $500, but they are very overpriced 400-450Mhz models. I wouldn't recommend that. Looks like about the same prices as macofalltrades above.

What's your opinion on a
G4/733 QuickSilver 256/40GB CD-RW ZIP 56K Pro Keyboard/Mouse
for $750?

how about trying a new eMac? or a refurb which will be closer to the $500

Well, she insists on wanting a desktop model, so both the eMac and iMac are out. (Both are too expensive, besides)

And the 733mhz model I mentioned above is used...that's like refurb, right?

I have a Mac I am willing to sell to her. It is really great, here are the specs:

PowerMac G4 500Mhz (Sawtooth)
768MB RAM
***Radeon 8500 Pro***
2x32GB Hard Drives, or 1x 80GB HD
Lite-On 52x CD-RW drive

Extra:
5 Port Ethernet Card (ontop of the 1 built in)

I am willing to let it go for 600$. I will include a fresh copy of Panther, iLife '04, and Keynote onto the system. I can include a keyboard and mouse if needed.

Thanks for the offer, Aztec, but I don't think she'll make a solid decision for at least a few months.
