I edit video with a Mac Pro with Final Cut Express. Video is input and output with a Sony DVCAM recorder. The system works fine and has all the features I need. However, to input or output from Beta tape, which I frequently need to do, I end up copying the Beta to DVCAM tape, inputting it into FCE, editing, outputting the final product to DVCAM, and then transferring back to BETA tape.

This works just fine, but is very time-consuming and doesn't allow maintaing consistent time code.

Two Questions:

1. Is there a way to input/output video into/out of FCE from Beta?

2. If the answer to #1 is yes, can I also obtain the same level of deck "control" that I have with the DVCAM.

Please don't suggest FC Pro and an AJA interface. Budget won't allow.

Thanks for any help or suggestions.

I don't believe any I/O cards work w/FCE. You could go FW into your DVCAM deck then analog out of the DVCAM deck into the Beta. Depending on what DVCAM deck you have you might even be able to slave the TC of the Beta to the DVCAM.
