I want to use my new macbook (2.4ghz 2g ram 250 hdd) as my default DVD player in my room, but I am not sure what cable I could use from the mini display port to my old piece of crap t.v. . My t.v. has s video and the red white and yellow inputs. Also, is there a difference between mini DVI and mini display port? I would like the cable to be relatively long, too.
Thanks,
Ryan

I've had a similar interest as you and as far as I can tell there is no simple way to currently do this. Apple has released a mini-display port to dvi and a mini-display port to vga. Also, mini dvi and display port are two different technologies.
Maybe it's possible to use a mini displayport to vga and then use another vga to composite or svideo cable.

from what I've read this doesn't work well enough, there's a box looking thing that's supposed to do the trick though, I'll search again
EDIT: here (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9113609) it is, just scroll through..
