Home from being away for school, just for a bit before school actually starts. Missing most of my gear, but brought the MacBook Pro back to visit the iMac I left behind for Mom.

MacBook Pro: Mid 2010 - 15.4" Core i5 2.4 GHz, 320 GB 5400RPM HDD, 4 GB RAM
iMac: Early 2008 - 20" Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz, 250 GB 5400RPM HDD, 4 GB RAM
iPhone 3GS - 32 GB, Black
iPod Touch - Gen. 2, 16 GB (There is another 8 GB somewhere around here as well)
iPod Classic - Gen. 6, 80 GB (Broken), Black
iPod Shuffle - Gen. 2, 1 GB, Lavendar
Apple Remote (Aluminum)
2x Apple Remote (Plastic)
Kingston DataTraveler - 4 GB
Generic Flash Drive (With Peace Signs =]) - 2 GB
2x Bluetooth Mighty Mouse
Bluetooth Keyboard

Missing (At school):
SeaGate FreeAgent|Desk - 1 TB
Maxtor OneTouch - 500 GB (Time Machine Backup)
iPod Touch - Gen. 2, 32 GB
iPod Video - Gen. 5, 60 GB, White
iPod Nano - Gen. 6, 16 GB, Red
iPod Nano - Gen. 3, 8 GB, Black
iPod Nano - Gen. 3, 4 GB, Silver
iPod Mini - Gen. 2, 4 GB, Silver
iPod Shuffle - Gen. 1, 512MB
iPod Shuffle - Gen. 3, 4GB
2nd Kingston DataTraveler - 4 GB
Generic Flash Drive (Aluminum) - 4 GB
Magic Mouse
2nd Bluetooth Keyboard

Whoa buddy, do you collect iPods? Pretty cool stash you have there.

I used to. Well, that is to say I tried very hard at the beginning of this past school year. However, funds and availability sort of got in the way.

I did end up having purchased more for actual use than for collection purposes though:
iPhone 3GS - 32 GB, Black
iPod Touch - Gen. 2, 8 GB
iPod Touch - Gen. 2, 16 GB
iPod Classic - Gen. 6, 80 GB (Broken), Black
iPod Touch - Gen. 2, 32 GB
iPod Video - Gen. 5, 60 GB, White
iPod Nano - Gen. 6, 16 GB, Red
iPod Mini - Gen. 2, 4 GB, Silver

And that is over the course of 5 years, with more than one actual user in mind (4-5, total), so maybe it isn't a huge amount, maybe for some it is. I was always just a fanboy I suppose, used to have to have the newest thing out there.

The others were just Kijiji purchases. I had planned to make a large, shelved shadow box and collect one of each of the iPod generations, but money got tight and I really lost interest when I couldn't find much out there. I believe I got both the Lavender Shuffle Gen. 2 and the Black Nano Gen. 3 for free from friends who had upgraded (the Nano has a terrible battery, so he didn't see the point in trying to make a buck), the 1st Gen. Shuffle from a friend of my sister's for $20, the Silver Nano Gen. 3 for $40 and the Shuffle Gen. 3 for $75 only a week after it's initial release. I really wanted to collect the actual classic models, but my silly mind strayed to stranger things. I think I actually used the Shuffle Gen. 3 for a while, but the headphones broke, so that's useless now too.

I had thought of selling them, but between the probability that nobody would want to pay for them and the difficulty of letting them go, I never did go through with that.

I also need to add todays very latest addition to my setup, I am now the proud owner of a 16GB WiFi & 3G iPad, which maybe moves the number of Macs, and certainly increases the number of OS X based devices up by 1... - One day it will be neat and cool, however that date is yet to be reached by my reckoning xD

Please take note of my collection of Mac boxes :p

Here are all of my iPods/iPhones
http://i736.photobucket.com/albums/xx1/igesundheit/ipods.jpg

Just an FYI. I was given 3/5 of these Macs. I purchased the 13" MBP. The 2010 MB was given to me after it had coffee spilled on it. I fixed it. The PMG5 was also given to me. And, the 2.16GHz MB was given to me with a non-working screen. One of the iMacs was given to me by my friend's grandmother. The other one, I bought on craigslist for $15.

Also, the screenless MacBook and the PMG5 are hooked up to the 18.5" Acer via a KVM switch.

Oh gawsh. Look at all of my cable management issues. Also, I just HAD to get a shot of the PowerMac G5 sitting all alone down there. You could barely see it in that picture.

Harman Kardon Soundstick IIs
Apple Wireless Keyboard (3battery version, getting 2 battery soon)
Logitech MX Revolution
Intuos3 6x11 tablet
Brother HL2170 wireless laser printer
Maxtor 500GB ext HD
Behind the monitor is a Linksys WRT320N

Macbook Pro, Acer 21.5 inch (1080p) + 17" Dell (1024 x 1280).
You can't see my Logitech speakers. Those Dell ones are for the other desktop (look at third image)

Nothing like using an AP environmental science book to raise your monitor a few inches :D

http://i56.tinypic.com/2yn4ffq.jpg

I couldn't find my iPod Mini, but here you see my iPhone 3GS 32GB, iPod Touch 1st Gen 8GB, iPod Touch 2nd Gen 8GB, iPod Nano 1st Gen 2GB.

Under my desk:
http://i51.tinypic.com/14c9oom.jpg

Free printer from Apple, my custom build desktop (see signature for specs), some boxes with ink/toner/software/extra hardware and on the far right, you see my Dell Dimension 8400. (Pentium 4, 3.2ghz; 1GB RAM; ATi x300 128MB, 160GB HDD)

If anyone is interested to see what inside of my custom built PC looks like, just let me know

Well, I didn't pay for the Mac but if any of you guys lived here you probably wouldn't have either. My MBP retails for $2935, so never mind the iMacs and higher end MacBook Pro's we have here.

However, I don't see anything wrong with it. I'm a student, I work hard, I get good grades and do my chores at home. Nothing wrong with my parents wanting to give me something for that, is there?

However, the other items in my signature (except for the iMac, which is shared here at home), I bought with my own money. Same goes for the peripherals and accessories for the MBP. ;)

The iMac isn't really mine, it's my father's. But he's on a trip for two weeks so he let me have it for that time. It's quite nice to have this big screen when at home! Wouldn't trade my mobility for it, though.

While just looking at all the individual setups here (I get ideas for my own by doing this), I realized that you all must be pretty lucky. Having these nice, fairly up-to-date computers and all. When I didn't get my first computer until I was in 10th grade (spring 2001) and it was quite outdated. It was an old Packard Bell 486 with a 100MB hard drive, 2MB RAM, and Windows 3.1. What could I do on it? Not much. Oh, and there was no internet in my room either. Just remember this kids, be thankful for what you've got. You could have a 486 and no internet.

EDIT: also I'm 15.

2nd EDIT:
How I got everything:
I am not rich, I'm a normal middle class kid. I asked my parents for to buy me the parts to build a new computer for my 14th birthday, I was given a budget of about 300-400 bucks, so I built the nice little machine you see on my desk (it ran XP until around October of last year then I switched to windows 7, then in September of this year I hackintoshed it). My father and I picked up the acer 20 inch monitor that I use as my primary from a craigslist posting about a week later for 50 bucks (birthday money from grandma :P) because I was using a crappy old CRT. I got the second monitor for christmas about 5 months later. I got my ipod nano for christmas when I was 12, I think. I got my iPod Touch for christmas when I was 13. The iBook I got from a friend who upgraded to a macbook a while back. Not pictured is a netbook that I got with confirmation money last year.

My current setup specs in sig. ( I actually have third monitor in triple monitor setup using usb to dvi display adapter. The third monitor sits on the shelf above the ACD ) I also have AKG 702 headphones going into the Little Dot MK III which is fed by a HRT Music Streamer II DAC. Total cost around 4500 I paid for everything except the computer. I make my money by fixing other peoples computers in my spare time.

What are you feeding with those tubes?

AKG 702's I have used quite a few headphones:

AKG 702's ( current )
ATH-M50s ( returned, did not like sound signature )
AD-700 ( really liked these but I liked the 702s more )
HD 201 ( Amazing value, great for the price but not in same league as 702s )
HD 595 ( I did not care for these at all sounded dark, veiled, and colored )
CX 300 (IEM) ( just my preference I don't care for IEM )
PX-100 ( one of my first headphones really good for price as well but again not in same league as other phones )
Grado SR 80 ( not the newer i series ) ( I thought they were way way to bright sounding for my taste also has a "in your face" kind of sound which I don't like )

so far my favorite is the 702s. I want to try out a pair of LCD 2s and HD 800s but don't know when that will happen. I am also trying to save up for a speaker system. When I get a new speaker system I might upgrade my headphone amp as well.

I want to get a Vincent audio SV-236MK amp ( around $2000 ) puts out 250wpc into 4 ohms which is needed since the speakers I want are not efficient. I want to get the Magnepan 1.7s which also run around $2000. I really like my current DAC and may end up keeping it during the process of upgrading. It depends on how much better the upgraded version of my DAC sounds. I might get a nice turntable to go with this too. It all depends on how much money I have in the next half a year.

Thanks a lot!

It's the KRK Rokit G2 RP6 special edition in white :) They look and sound amazing.

I gave $590, but I'm sure you can get them way cheaper in the US. The Danish taxes are crazy.

Would love to have an ACD, but it costs $1500 ($500 more than US!!) just because of the taxes (and Apple know they can charge more). So I'm selling the MBP and getting an iMac when I'm done with school this summer :)

One funny observation I've had about the 18 and under setups is that the chairs look way less comfortable than the ones I see in the normal setups thread. ... and many of you guys have .....

How do you guys put up with those desks?! Some of them appear to be barely big enough to fit a computer.. and many are in rooms more than big enough to fit a normal sized desk. You're (probably) in school.. so you probably do a lot of paper homework right? Why torture yourself like that?!

Also, mad props for the amount of DESKTOPS I see. Holy cow! I love desktops! Way to go.

My only claim to 18 and under fame was when I had a QS G4 and Cinema back in my days on MacNN - I made a lot of people on that forum hate me out of sheer jealousy (well, they were a pretty screwed up crowd anyway). lol :D Admittedly, it cost about as much as a new Hyundai at the time.. oh well.

Yah, down the hall (not really a hall) there are 4 custom closets(not walk in though) on the right, and a full bathroom on the left.

And I think the queen sized bed and the fireplace(not seen in the picture) are good enough for the ladies don't you?... Oh and the balcony with a view of the Mulholland Hills of Los Angeles ;) (again, not pictured)

Not really in the age range for here (20 now), but I do have pictures of my old setup from 2009 and early 2010. Take note, though - pretty poor lighting for these pictures. (In fact, I think the situation's only marginally improved since then... bleh.)

My old CRTs and, barely visible, my PCs. (http://bloodstar.exaltedlegion.com/what/IMAG0463.jpg) The one on the left I still use, albeit in a very much upgraded state (think an enormous processor, video, and RAM upgrade), and the right one (running Damn Small Linux with 28MB of RAM... yikes) has since been retired. I remember having to use that as my primary once - not fun, though at least Nesticle, Genecyst, and mIRC ran fine under Win98. I still run XP on the left machine as well, although I did run 7 until it blew up in my face.

Keyboard and mouse from said time (black tower). (http://bloodstar.exaltedlegion.com/what/IMAG0464.jpg) My mother uses said mouse now, and the keyboard is set up to my server.

Keyboard and mouse from said time (white tower). (http://bloodstar.exaltedlegion.com/what/IMAG0465.jpg) Both are retired now, though if I need to dig anything up from that tower I get the keyboard. I think I actually truly started experimenting with Linux when I crammed DSL into about a 100MB space on here.

A more typical usage picture from said era. (http://bloodstar.exaltedlegion.com/what/IMAGE001.jpg) I'd dual monitor then, too, but having a GMA945 really isn't conducive to it... in power nor did I have enough ports. Also, I no longer leave any money loose like that - I'm still baffled at my past tendency to do that.

A more recent shot, circa early 2010 (January - hey, I was still 18 then...). (http://bloodstar.exaltedlegion.com/what/IMAG0007.jpg) The lighting's horrible here, but you may be able to make out the MDD I used until I got my MBP a couple of weeks ago. I still use the monitor on the left, and the one on the right has since been relegated to my server in case I need to directly use it.

I'll... admit, I kind of miss these setups. I've certainly improved it over time (though not as much as I'd like), but there's a certain nostalgia value to these pictures. Plenty of these are even nicer than my current!

I'm sorry for the crappy picture, but I had to use my mobile phone since my digital camera stopped working. :(

Sick setup, really clean.

My setup right now keeps on changing, but I really hope to have a nice one once I'm done with college and have a decent paying job...
Anyone know any reasonable alternatives to the ACD? it's so darn expensive==

Thank you! Glad you like it.

You can get the 24" relatively cheap online now (second-hand) so you might just look there. If you want the 27", on the other hand, I wouldn't know..

My own opinion is that a Mac just looks better when attached to an ACD - and not just some random Samsung, Dell or whatever display. So just go with the 24" ACD if you don't want to spend too much money. :D

Made some major changes to my setup sine my last post. Got a new 13" MBP and sold the 20" iMac and my old MBP. I just got the intuos4 tablet today and a bigger monitor is next on the list. Also shown is my new 4s that i got a week ago. I know i still need to do some cable management but I ran out of tie-wraps.

I'm 16 and my 20" iMac does all I need, if not more - and I'm kind of a demanding user (Photoshop / Illustrator CS5).

It's the Z Line Gemini desk from Staples. It's about a hundred bucks.

And to be honest with you, it was the worst $100 I've ever spent. The wood is some flimsy particle board. It seems to be doing fine for fireman, but if you throw a big iMac on it and a desk full of other stuff, I wouldn't trust it as far as I could throw it.

lol sure. Let me start by saying that my parents are quite generous...however i still do have to work for my money. That said, i get paid for doing normal household chores and cutting the lawn. I also cut neighbors lawns in the spring and summer and in the fall i rake leaves for them and in the winter (if it snows......virginia...theres not telling lol.) then ill shovel snow for them...its hard work but it defiantly pays off in the end.

Edit: Oh and selling stuff i don't need any more.

I really thought about it, but I am looking in to doing some heavy video editing and I could use the power. Plus it serves as a "hub" for my data. I could buy a wireless hd for that but that doesnt solve the power problem.

Well, I usually ask the person how much they think it's worth...If they say 5 bucks then say thanks for the offer, but there are many houses that would pay more. (try not to make it sound too rude though). I'd say I usually make between 15-30 bucks per house. Im on my iPhone as I am on the bus so I can't do the calculation on how long itll take you. Sorry

For those interested,
2011 27" iMac, specs in sig.
18" IBM CRT, not my preferred choice of second screen but it was free and does the job.
Two 3.5" 1TB WDs, one is a clone the other is for Time Machine.
320GB 2.5" WD, just used as a big USB stick really.
AV Labs 7 port USB Hub, not bad for $18.
Bamboo Fun, love this thing :D
No frills Microsoft mouse, gets the job done.
16GB Toshiba USB stick.
iPhone 3, got this for free second hand, still need to set it up though.
iPod nano 16GB.
Thomson iPod dock, came free with the iPod.

Everything's slowly coming together :)

Im 17, on the desk is like 20$ speakers from target, in the bag is my dell laptop, a calandar to keep track of things. On the floor is my other computer, an old 2007 acer, and my printer, on the laptop is a hard drive that i made, i just bought a enclosure and took my moms old hard drive which was only 80gb but its better than the 5 flash drives i suppose. Then theres my PCAT books(im wanting to be a pharmacist and plan on studying this summer before i go to college, never to early to start learning)
-I hope you guys like it, im new to the forums so maybe there might be more of my other room in the tv setup section.
