iPhone Screen Trouble

My screen for my 16 gb iPhone remains black while I can still call it for some reason, and it plays my ringtone. I tried plugging it in to my computer and the outlet and it makes that signature noise like it has been connected but still nothing on the screen. Am I going to have to go to the Apple Store for this or is there something I can do?

Try to see if it can enter DFU mode (http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=1034). If you get a visual onscreen with DFU mode, then restore it that way and see if it continues to work normally. Otherwise, off to Apple.
