I got an iPod touch last December, and I'm thinking about selling it and then buying the next gen iPhone when it may be released in June.

However, the engraving: "Merry Christmas! To Alastair, from Dad" will probably put off anyone from buying it... right?

But has anyone made any money selling an iPod with engraving before hand anyway? Do you reckon someone would actually bid on eBay for it?

it would definitely drive the price down somewhat. i would suggest researching some methods for how to remove the engraving and post them alongside your information. i'd still bid on it, but definitely not as much as a non-engraved touch.

i think if you rub steel wool up against the spot where it is itll go away and give the back of your touch a cool look. no sure though

It's not really engraved. I mean the surface is not cut into. when they laser engrave it they paint on this stuff (one brand is cermark) and the laser bonds it to the metal.so it can be worn off.
but if the price is decent it will sell. I sold my 32 gig on ebay in 15 minutes as I had the price a bit low. back was all scratched up from the case.

hm, if it just "painted on" then perhaps a couple of drops of vinegar on a cotton ball might just take it off. get some vinegar on a cotton ball. not dripping wet. just moist/damp. be careful not to touch the headphone jack with the liquids. this will void your warranty. gently rub on it for a few mins. do this for about 15 minutes. see what happens. if anything bad happens, im not responsible. :D

I don't really wanna go messing up the case in any way really, thinking this may damage the case and reduce the price more than it already has lost, lol

also done a bit of research into how you can remove laser engravings from an iPod... and the general consensus is:

you can't.

Why can't you have a laser rectangle done over the script? Just a thought.

any interest? ...........sure, you wont get as much for it because of the engraving but for the right price, somebody will definitely buy it
