Is it monthly, yearly, or a one-time fee? (I'm talking about the Standard $99 fee)

I thought it was a one time fee but now I'm hearing that it's a yearly fee. Anyone can confirm?

Has always been a yearly fee. Those who were among the first to get accepted and pay last year got an extension on their first year until July 11, 2009.

Has anyone successfully published an app that had significant profit?

Define 'significant.' I took 4 months off work because my apps were paying for me to live.

Admittedly that is one of the exceptions. If you went into this thinking you'd get that then you're likely to be disappointed. Likewise, don't give up the day job just yet...

On the other hand, small, fairly niche apps, written in your spare time, can still make a useful amount of money - enough to pay the mortgage.

My rather niche app (which I only developed as its something that *I* wanted) has made about $3500 in the last 3 months which is better than a kick in the teeth, especially as its not my day job.
