problem w/ image in InDesign

I have a small (5x8") book cover I've created in InDesign, which looks great so far. I would like to add a graphic image that I created in Photoshop, but when I place it in my InD document, it shows up very pixelated. I'm sure the file is large enough (2.4 MB), and it looks great before I import it to InDesign. I've tried tif and psd, with the same results. I know I probably need to convert it to a different type graphic, but my experience with this is very limited, and I've run out of ideas. I would appreciate if someone could coach me through the steps, using layman's terms if possible, to convert this to a format that will work in the InDesign document, or tell me what I need to do. I'm using CS3. Thanks.

Right/ctrl click the image, in context menu select "Display Performance > High Quality Display". Pixelated images are previews for faster rendering.

BTW, you can set High Quality as default in InD prefs: "InDesign menu > Preferences > Display Performance". Not recommended if you´re dealing with a lot of hi-res graphics on one page and/or you have a slow Mac.

Thanks so much--the simple solutions are sometimes the hardest to see. The resolution is fine now.

On another note, I have also been getting a message on opening the file saying that my doc contains links to missing or modified files. I have to update the file each time I open, and am wondering if there is a way to embed the file into the document or otherwise resolve the missing link issue. I don't know what file is missing, except perhaps a new font that I used? Any clues on this?

Open the links palette. It will tell you there which file is missing, or needs updating. As long as you are keeping all the files in the same place (i.e. not moving them around to different locations), and as long as wherever they are is accessible by the program (i.e. not on external drives that aren't mounted), once you link them, they should stay linked after you save.

I like the "Package" command. It places all of the files associated with a particular project in one file folder.
