How do I reformat a 2nd gen ipod to work on a pc?

Then how do I connect it using usb? (no dock connector obviously)

as far as i remember, the 2nd generation was either pc or mac. they were sold only one way. i don't think you can switch it. also, i don't think the 2nd generation's were usb compatible...
