So I've noticed that my Hd2600Xt is not really that fast so i bought an Nvidia 9800GT. I opened my mac pro, took out my old GfxCard, and put in the new one. But the 9800 needs a secondary power supply. Now, i have a 6pin -> 4pin cable: http://www.cable-trader.co.uk/images/PCI%20Express%204%20pin%20to%206%20pin%20power%20adapter.jpg. I've connected the 6 pin part into the graphics card But i don't know where to put the 4 pin!!!!
HELP PLEASE!!!!

oh....
so what should i do?
sell it, and get the apple 8800GT kit. 9800 is not worth the hassle imo, gtx280 is. :)
9800 is very similar to 8800 performance wise.. and by very i mean that if i remember correctly use the same gpu
else you can : flash the rom + external power supply... or the thing that Cindori linked you to.
you can also get a PC 8800 and flash it.

Maybe get an ATI Radeon 4870 instead of the Nvidia 9800 GT?

I keep wondering how convenient it is having two GPUs in one of these. each one serving a different OS. won't you have to swap the monitor cable between operating systems?
Is there some kind of specific cable that accepts two inputs and switches?

there are monitors that accept two cables so you can switch on the monitor. but i havent seen many to be honest, and many were VGA/DVI . :)

If your 9800GT has a 128K EEPROM chip, it is a simple matter to mod the 8800GT ROM to flash it...solves your problems.
Elsewhere here is a link to the power cable for $12.95 from ATI.

This is my DIY this can help you
Just use your Dvd rom's power cable if you got your 2008 mac pro which the Dvd rom still HDD not SATA so there is a 4 pin power adpater but one thing you should DO IT YOURSELF I will SHOW some photos
You should cut off and have 4 cable which will put into the 4 pin connecter (see photo)
And I let all cable go thru the conner of the case which take the first HDD away and you will find way to get thru it some more pics.
Cheer By the I DIY my XFX Nvidia 8800 GT 256MB ,I am thinking upgrade to
ATI 4870 but this need 2 6pin much more power supply anyone has try it??? Does the Mac pro power can support???and How much the MAX Watte of standed power supply...Thanks
