White spot on LCD screen? (not a dead pixel)

This morning I noticed a soft white spot on the lower left corner of my Macbook. It's not a dead pixel. I've seen those before and this is different. This spot only shows up as a light spot when the screen has a light background. On a darker screen it totally disappears. The spot is a few mm in size and.

I've examined the top of the LCD case and it's smooth. The Macbook has not been dropped in anyway. Any ideas?

Probably a stuck pixel, I read somewhere in the forum about someone who would massage the pixel and it eventually started working again.

You may want to look as I don't remember exactly how it was done, but I think they used their finger and pressed on the screen a bit and moved it in circles around the pixel for awhile. Though if you have the aluminum MB I would be careful, you dont want to crack the glass that protects the screen

Like I said in the first post it's not a stuck pixel. It's a white spot that shows only against a light background. Against a dark background it does not show up. If it were a stuck white pixel it would show up all the more against a dark background. I'm wondering if this is like the white spots from the infamous early powerbooks.

I had this in a new macbook pro about 6 months ago. Took it in and they gave me a new one right on the spot

I've got what i can only describe as a grey blob in the middle of my screen. I can only see it when the screen is on, but black. Such as if my wallpaper was black.
Is this what you guys are experiencing?

Mine is more of a white blob that shows up best against a middle grey screen. Unlike stuck pixels which usually show a sharp edge the edges are soft.

yeah mines really soft and blurry too.
Someone mentioned some problems that the iBook or Powerbooks used to suffer from, what were they? could it be the same?

If it's centered on the screen, it sounds like you're seeing the glowing Apple from the backside of your screen ;)

No its not the apple. The patch is about an inch from the bottom left corner. One day it just showed up. I know for fact that it was not there before.

I dont think it could be the apple either way, since the apple is made to glow by the same light that is the backlight to our screens. in which case the amount of light would be pretty well equal across the screen and not any brighter where the apple is.

I also have a light blob on the screen of my white macbook. It just appeared one day.

No problem. I'm thinking my situation is cased by the backlight somehow pushing against the pixels. I'm trying to decide if I should just live with it or take it to an a service depot. I'm not sure how much traction I'll get for a repair.

See though, he said it happens when his desktop is set to a black image. Light could be coming in through the Apple and causing it to show?

that could be a possibility but i highly doubt it, the apple is somewhat foggy and i cant see it letting a lot of light through unless the light source was directly in front of it. (like shining a flashlight into it)

I have this exact thing on my Oct. 2007 MBP...only one spot, mid to upper left side of the screen, quite close to the bezel.

It's a pressure spot in the LCD caused by compression of one or more layers of the glass, which changes the way light comes through the screen. Most frequently caused by compression.

I got a white spot on my mb aluminum screen too. Its on the lower left-hand corner and it appears once in awhile. :eek:

For the unibody Mac's in particular. It's true. Nothing we can do about it. About 25% of people will be able to find some sort of imperfection on these new unibody displays, and the other 75% of people just aren't looking hard enough. Whether it be a white spot, a dead pixel, a perma-on pixel, dust under the display, or a collection of these things....expect it. I know everyone here loves their Mac, but there's no point in denying the obvious. After having gone through 5 new unibody macbooks within 2 weeks (because of display anomalies (i'm super picky), I've decided to stop caring). If you want a really nice display on your laptop, get one that that has a matte finish, otherwise be prepared to get something which isn't perfect.
