I purchased the entire first season of Sarah Conners Chronicles on my Apple TV. However everytime I open itunes it starts transferring the shows to my itunes. I have limited disk space on my computer so it can't back up all the shows. I tried deleting them from my itunes one time. When I went back to my ATV all the programs were gone.

I just want the TV Shows on my ATV not on my computer. Does anyone know the best way of doing this?

Select 'Disable automatic syncing for Apple TVs' in iTunes preferences?

I've encountered the same problem. Disabling automatic tv sync will also prevent your iTunes from sending new content to your tv.

Apple needs to add the ability for separate video and music libraries. This way, you can set your video library to go to an external HDD and keep your music on your local drive.

Unfortunatly, what you are asking really isn't possible. The only thing you could really do is remove the sync between Itunes and ATV completely. This means, from now on, you will only be able to add content to your ATV, through your ATV. You can still access the meda on your computer ofcourse, by just using streaming.

However, I have also noticed that if you do this, and you buy something on the ATV, Itunes will then try to download your purchases again (after they have already downloaded to your ATV). I am pretty sure they do this for back up purposes as the ATV does not count as a Itunes authorized device. That, and its very difficult to back up content on your ATV with an Itunes sync.

When you ask "How do I keep Apple TV from synching with iTunes?", the correct answer is, "You don't".

By not synching, you're making it so that one false move (associating with a different library) can wipe out $100's of dollars of content.

You'd be better off spending $50 on a cheap external hard drive or, better yet, a second internal hard drive if that's a possibility.

I think I'm gonna have to get another external hard drive.
