For those with Nike Watch Remote

Simple question:

Could you just use the watch for pause, play, FF, RW feature without running? Or could you only use it in the the Nike Plus mode?

As of right now it will only work while running because bluetooth is disabled when not in nike+ mode. I hope that all changes with the 3.0 update since the bluetooth will be unlocked.
