How to name pc files and open them

:confused: I was asked to download quite a few maps from the One X Alliance clan site but when i click on the file to download to my mac, my mac says it does not know how to handle the file and what file do i want to use to open it.
I guess i have to name the file or call it something dont i?
Any recomendations on how i go about this one because i need those maps.
And will these files once in the map folder work on the mac.?

What's the extension? You may need to download a program which can handle this file. It is possible that you will need Virtual PC to open them.
