There are many songs which just move you to tears.
This is one does it for me
It is not jingoistic but deeply moving about a Old Battle Of Britain Pilot on his death bed.
Kate Bush is from Kent (where I am from) and the skies of Kent were where the Battle of Britain took place. Kent is known as The Garden of England, hence references to orchards.

Oh! England, My Lionheart,
I'm In Your Garden, Fading Fast In Your Arms.
The Soldiers Soften, The War Is Over.
The Air Raid Shelters Are Blooming Clover.
Flapping Umbrellas Fill The Lanes--
My London Bridge In Rain Again.
Oh! England, My Lionheart!
Peter Pan Steals The Kids In Kensington Park.
You Read Me Shakespeare On The Rolling Thames--
That Old River Poet That Never, Ever Ends.
Our Thumping Hearts Hold The Ravens In,
And Keep The Tower From Tumbling.
Oh! England, My Lionheart,
Oh! England, My Lionheart,
Oh! England, My Lionheart,
I Don't Want To Go.
Oh! England, My Lionheart!
Dropped From My Black Spitfire To My Funeral Barge.
Give Me One Kiss In Apple-Blossom.
Give Me One Wish, And I'd Be Wassailing
In The Orchard, My English Rose,
Or With My Shepherd, Who'll Bring Me Home.
Oh! England, My Lionheart,
Oh! England, My Lionheart,
Oh! England, My Lionheart,
I Don't Want To Go.
Oh! England, My Lionheart,
Oh! England, My Lionheart,
Oh! England, My Lionheart,
I Don't Want To Go.

Risin' up, back on the street
Did my time, took my chances
Went the distance, now I'm back on my feet
Just a man and his will to survive
So many times, it happens too fast
You change your passion for glory
Don't lose your grip on the dreams of the past
You must fight just to keep them alive
Chorus:
It's the eye of the tiger, it's the cream of the fight
Risin' up to the challenge of our rival
And the last known survivor stalks his prey in the night
And he's watchin' us all in the eye of the tiger
Face to face, out in the heat
Hangin' tough, stayin' hungry
They stack the odds 'til we take to the street
For we kill with the skill to survive
chorus
Risin' up, straight to the top
Have the guts, got the glory
Went the distance, now I'm not gonna stop
Just a man and his will to survive
chorus
The eye of the tiger (repeats out)...
Eye of the Tiger.
Don't stop Believing- Journey
Just a small town girl, livin in a lonely world
She took the midnight train goin anywhere
Just a city boy, born and raised in south detroit
He took the midnight train goin anywhere
A singer in a smokey room
A smell of wine and cheap perfume
For a smile they can share the night
It goes on and on and on and on
Strangers waiting, up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching in the night
Streetlight people, living just to find emotion
Hiding, somewhere in the night
Working hard to get my fill,
Everybody wants a thrill
Payin anything to roll the dice,
Just one more time
Some will win, some will lose
Some were born to sing the blues
Oh, the movie never ends
It goes on and on and on and on
(chorus)
Dont stop believin
Hold on to the feelin
Streetlight people

Not that the lyrics are anything special, but Tessie by the Dropkick Murphys brings back memories of seeing the Red Sox lose the 6th game of the World Series in 1986 while in college (still in New England), and having one of our fraternity brothers from Philly come in to the room two of us were watching to laugh at how the game ended. No words needed speaking, his face went pale when he saw a look he wasn't expecting on our faces, and he backed out of the room quickly. I was home at my parent's house for game seven and knew that as they had in every World Series they had been in since 1918, they would lose in a seventh game (which they of course did). Baseball is the one sport that is taken extremely seriously in New England. Even though I was up by myself to watch the Red Sox complete a sweep to win the 2004 World Series (my wife said "even if they lose this game they would have 3 more chances to win; no team can come back"... I almost had a heart attack on the spot, knowing the team's history and the fact that they had just become the first Major League Baseball team to actually accomplish that very feat by coming back against the New York Yankees to get to the World Series in the first place) it was still an unforgettable experience. When they swept the World Series again in 2007 that feeling wasn't there, and it wasn't there for the recent New England Patriots Super Bowl wins or last season's Boston Celtics NBA championship. It was a once in a lifetime feeling, and I'm sure it was for the Murphys, too, since they all grew up in Boston. Of course, it doesn't hurt that Yankees fans can't stand the song at all. Anything that gets to them is just fine in my book.
I am a lifelong New Englander, and if you grew up here you have the Sox in your blood. Even having a dad who was from New York and a Yankees fan couldn't match the pull of the Sox.

One song that always gets me (not exactly to tears though) is First Time I Ever Saw Your Face by Roberta Flack. It's a love song, but somehow just comes across as being so mournful.. And lyric itself isn't sad, it's the music.

Another Kate Bush song- sorry but she has this effect on me. She is one of the great great artists of the last 50 years, and no I am not over stating it.
She is truly brilliant.

Moments Of Pleasure
Some moments that I`ve had
Some moments of pleasure
I think about us lying
Lying on a beach somewhere
I think about us diving
Diving off a rock, into another moment
The case of George the Wipe
Oh God I can`t stop laughing
This sense of humour of mine
It isn`t funny at all
Oh but we sit up all night
Talking about it
Just being alive
It can really hurt
And these moments given
Are a gift from time
On a balcony in New York
It`s just started to snow
He meets us at the lift
Like Douglas Fairbanks
Waving his walking stick
But he isn`t well at all
The buildings of New York
Look just like mountains through the snow
Just being alive
It can really hurt
And these moments given
Are a gift from time
Just let us try
To give these moments back
To those we love
To those who will survive
And I can hear my mother saying
"Every old sock meets an old shoe"
Isn`t that a great saying?
"Every old sock meets an old shoe"
Here come the Hills of Time
Hey there Maureen,
Hey there Bubba,
Dancing down the aisle of a plane,
`S Murph, playing his guitar refrain,
Hey there Teddy,
Spinning in the chair at Abbey Road,
Hey there Michael,
Do you really love me?
Hey there Bill,
Could you turn the lights up?

I have a few, many of them non-pop songs.
Taps, played by a lone bugler.
Amazing Grace, on the bagpipes. If played properly, it's haunting. (Yes, yes, I know...how can you tell if anything is played properly on the pipes. :D)
Johnny Cash's cover of "Hurt".

I haven't found a song that moves me to tears, but these two do make me somewhat emotional.
Shine a Light - The Rolling Stones- Exile on Main Street
Let it Be - The Beatles- Let it Be

Agree, a beautiful and haunting song. One that always gets me is Israel Kamakawiwo'ole's version of Somewhere Over The Rainbow. Another, but this is an instrumental piece, rather than a song is Ronald Binge's The Watermill.
Cheers and good luck

Jeff Buckley, Lover, you should have come over, from the album Grace..
Looking out the door I see the rain fall upon the funeral mourners
Parading in a wake of sad relations as their shoes fill up with water
And maybe Im too young to keep good love from going wrong
But tonight youre on my mind so you never know
When Im broken down and hungry for your love with no way to feed it
Where are you tonight, child you know how much I need it
Too young to hold on and too old to just break free and run
Sometimes a man gets carried away, when he feels like he should be having his fun
And much too blind to see the damage hes done
Sometimes a man must awake to find that really, he has no-one
So Ill wait for you... and Ill burn
Will I ever see your sweet return
Oh will I ever learn
Oh lover, you shouldve come over
cause its not too late
Lonely is the room, the bed is made, the open window lets the rain in
Burning in the corner is the only one who dreams he had you with him
My body turns and yearns for a sleep that will never come
Its never over, my kingdom for a kiss upon her shoulder
Its never over, all my riches for her smiles when I slept so soft against her
Its never over, all my blood for the sweetness of her laughter
Its never over, shes the tear that hangs inside my soul forever
Well maybe Im just too young
To keep good love from going wrong
Oh... lover, you shouldve come over
cause its not too late
Well I feel too young to hold on
And Im much too old to break free and run
Too deaf, dumb, and blind to see the damage Ive done
Sweet lover, you shouldve come over
Oh, love well Im waiting for you
Lover, you shouldve come over
cause its not too late
Pink Floyd Comfortably Numb...
Hello.
Is there anybody in there?
Just nod if you can hear me.
Is there anyone home?
Come on, now.
I hear youre feeling down.
Well I can ease your pain,
Get you on your feet again.
Relax.
I need some information first.
Just the basic facts:
Can you show me where it hurts?
There is no pain, you are receding.
A distant ships smoke on the horizon.
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move but I cant hear what youre sayin.
When I was a child I had a fever.
My hands felt just like two balloons.
Now I got that feeling once again.
I cant explain, you would not understand.
This is not how I am.
I have become comfortably numb.
Ok.
Just a little pinprick. [ping]
Therell be no more --aaaaaahhhhh!
But you may feel a little sick.
Can you stand up?
I do believe its working. good.
Thatll keep you going for the show.
Come on its time to go.
There is no pain, you are receding.
A distant ships smoke on the horizon.
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move but I cant hear what youre sayin.
When I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse,
Out of the corner of my eye.
I turned to look but it was gone.
I cannot put my finger on it now.
The child is grown, the dream is gone.
I have become comfortably numb.
Aesop Rock, No Regrets, From Labor Days...
Lucy was 7 and wore a head of blue barettes
City born, into this world with no knowledge and no regrets
Had a piece of yellow chalk with which she'd draw upon the street
The many faces of the various locals that she would meet
There was joshua, age 10
Bully of the block
Who always took her milk money at the morning bus stop
There was Mrs. Crabtree, and her poodle
She always gave a wave and holler on her weekly trip down to the bingo
parlor
And she drew
Men, women, kids, sunsets, clouds
And she drew
Skyscrapers, fruit stands, cities, towns
Always said hello to passers-by
They'd ask her why she passed her time
Attachin lines to concrete
But she would only smile
Now all the other children living in or near her building
Ran around like tyrants, soaking up the open fire hydrants
They would say
"Hey little Lucy, wanna come jump double dutch?"
Lucy would pause, look, grin and say
"I'm busy, thank you much"
Well, well, one year passed
And believe it or not
She covered every last inch of the entire sidewalk,
And she stopped-
"Lucy, after all this, you're just giving in today??"
She said:
"I'm not giving in, I'm finished," and walked away
(Chorus: x2)
1 2 3
That's the speed of the seed
A B C
That's the speed of the need
You can dream a little dream
Or you can live a little dream
I'd rather live it
Cuz dreamers always chase
But never get it
Lucy was 37, and introverted somewhat
Basement apartment in the same building she grew up in
She traded in her blue barettes for long locks held up with a clip
Traded in her yellow chalk for charcoal sticks
And she drew
Little bobby who would come to sweep the porch
And she drew
The mailman, delivered everyday at 4
Lucy had very little contact with the folks outside her cubicle day
But she found it suitable, and she liked it that way
She had a man now: Rico, similar, hermit
They would only see each other once or twice a week on purpose
They appreciated space and Rico was an artist too
So they'd connect on saturdays to share the pictures that they drew
(Look!)
Now every month or so, she'd get a knock upon the front door
Just one of the neighbors,
Actin nice, although she was a strange girl, they would
Say, "Lucy, wanna join me for some lunch??"
Lucy would smile and say "I'm busy, thank you much"
And they would make a weird face the second the door shut
And run and tell their friends how truly crazy Lucy was
And lucy knew what people thought but didn't care
Cuz while they spread their rumors through the street
She'd paint another masterpiece
(Chorus x2)
Lucy was 87, upon her death bed
At the senior home, where she had previously checked in
Traded in the locks and clips for a head rest
Traded in the charcoal sticks for arthritis, it had to happen
And she drew no more, just sat and watched the dawn
Had a television in the room that she'd never turned on
Lucy pinned up a life worth's of pictures on the wall
And sat and smiled, looked each one over, just to laugh at it all
Now Rico, he had passed, 'bout 5 years back
So the visiting hours pulled in a big flock o' nothin
She'd never spoken once throughout the spanning of her life
Until the day she leaned forward, grinned and pulled the nurse aside
And she said:
"Look, I've never had a dream in my life
Because a dream is what you wanna do, but still haven't pursued
I knew what I wanted and did it till it was done
So i've been the dream that I wanted to be since day one!"
Well!
The nurse jumped back,
She'd never heard Lucy even talk,
'Specially words like that
She walked over to the door, and pulled it closed behind
Then Lucy blew a kiss to each one of her pictures
And she died.
(Chorus x2)
1 2 3...
A B C...
sorry for long post, could not resist.

Green Fields of France By Dropkick Murphys. i played it for my grandfather and it became his favorite song. he requested that it be played at his funeral and it brought everyone to tears. so it has that sentimental value for me.
