Hi

I have my 8 core 2.6 Mac Pro, until last week I had it with 2GB of ram but I added 8GB on top of that.

Now, Light Wave seems the same, nothing faster. I haven't test Cinema 4D.

But After Effects ran a render at 1/3 the time! I have a project I finished last week and it took 9,7 minutes and now the same project took 3,50 min to render.

So... any advice in making LW and C4D taking advantage of the new ram?

Thank you.

Then they should be 64-bit.

Have you looked into the settings of each software, if there is something to "activate"? (I only touched Lightwave once (90ies) and Cinema is awhile ago too)

Have you even big scenes/models that demand the extra RAM?

Are you referring to render times when you are talking about faster or are you talking about how smooth the program feels. If you're talking about render times, I have my doubts that adding RAM will help at all. Rendering should all be based on your processors and video card.
