I know that everyone has figured out that the new macbooks haven't implemented audio over displayport. does anyone know if the new iMacs have? I have a 46" lcd that hangs above my desktop right now (my bed is right behind my desk) and I'd really like to know if I could use a mini-displayport to hdmi adapter and have it work for audio as well. or would I have to run the audio out seperately. I already have my audio monitors hooked my iMac, but I'd like to be able to get sound from my TV as well.

Mini DisplayPort is not capable of output audio, only the standard DisplayPort is. Like the poster above, the only way to get audio if you're using a mini DisplayPort is to use the headphone jack.

That's what I figured. can't I just use a 1/8" Y-splitter and run audio to both the TV and my audio monitors?

truly?

from what i understand mini display port is just as capable of passing audio as display port

the only problem is that apple software is not enabled to pass audio through any display port, mini or regular sized

this may be implemented in the future, such as with Snow Leopard, but that's just conjecture

Completely and utterly wrong.

Mini DisplayPort carries audio. It is not enabled in OS X.
