Apple store customer serivce is just...damn

So... my girlfriend...

New Unibody Macbook 2.4... the trackpad wasn't responding well. You'd click it and there would be no response. You'd have to click extra hard just to click whatever you're trying to click on.

Laptop is well over a month old... maybe 6 weeks. There is no Applecare on it yet...

She took it to the store...they looked at it...and then...

"Oh since you just got it, instead of us repairing it, we'll just give you a brand new one."

Bravo Apple.

they gave me a brand new one too. mine came with scratches on the top so they swapped it out for a new machine the day after i got it. awesome customer service.

It's the same coverage though. As long as it's under any Applecare they will take care of you.

If you don't have AppleCare they see it, and you're sort of "looked down upon" in some stores, or through some of the people's eyes. However, it is good leverage if you don't have it... say you are under a year warranty and you have some major issues and you want a whole new laptop... tell them you'll buy AppleCare and it might pull them over the top.

No it does not come with AppleCare; it comes with 1 year of limited hardware warranty and 90 days of telephone support.

AppleCare replaces the 1 year warranty and 90 day telephone support.

Apple customer service is really surprising. It's surprising because it's good enough to allow the customers to be really picky about stuff. It's really great, because even despite this picky-ness, they still find a way to blow you out of the water with great service.

I had an iMac with tons of problems, and it was 2 and 3 quarters year old. It was a base model, early 2006 iMac with 512 RAM, 160GB HD, and 1.83GHz Core Duo. I got to a higher level person, and they gave me a brand spankin' new aluminum iMac (previous 2.4GHz base model).

Apple's great.

I feel this is the reason that we pay the Apple Tax.

Dell or HP couldn't afford to give you a brand spanking new machine because they already make incredibly slim margins on their computers.
