mail notification

i've been using quicksilver...which is a lot like launchbar

i've been hiding my dock but would like to get mail notifications...maybe some sort of thing in the toolbar? are there any apps/settings or anything that can do this?

btw: i know konfabulator has got some things but i'm looking for another alternative

thanks a bunch... funny, i tried version tracker and none of these came up...most have been searching with the wrong words.
