Don't forget!!! DDR Ram! Finally!Actually this ISN'T "just" a speed bump, because of that.

This means the eMac has finally dumped the of SDR PowerMac chipset it was using and probably adopted the iMac/Book DDR chipset.

And it probably means the eMac with be a G4 for at least another 18-24 months.

It also has a nicer graphics card - Radeon 9200 with 32mb memory

NICE! Almost as good as new PowerMacs, almost. ;)
DDR Ram, More Hard Drive, More Power, And Cheaper, That's NICE!

Most importantly it has an 8x SuperDrive.

When do the other Macs get such a SuperDrive?

i knew this had to happen - my emac that i just ordered (refurb) will be getting here *today*... guess i just have to tell myself that the radeon 9200 isn't as good as the 7500 or something...

Jesus christ, who gives a ****** about eMac updates!!!!

Note to Apple: We want a G5 rev. 2 (over due), for the iMac to go G5 (over due), and for the PowerBook to go to 1.42GHz G4's (Can't see them getting G5's just yet)

Leave the eMacs, leave the iPods, and update the god damn products we all actually care about and that are in desperate need of it!!!!!

edit: oh, and update the freakin' displays!!!

Don't sugar-coat it... how do you REALLY feel? ;)

I know everyone's desperate for new Power Macs, and everything else to get updated. But the 8x Superdrive in eMacs means that new iMacs CAN'T be far away, which means new Power Macs are even closer!

We hope...

World's first eMac first look review?? Check it out :p Critisize please - the differences are there too.

New eMacs have just been released, but is the update worthwhile? How much have they changed? and Is Apple just putting off the change to G5 even longer? Welian Mac investigates...

At least we know where the 9200 has gone too..... only 32 MB VRAM. (no DVD - RW??)

Is it cheap enough?

BTW the cheapest eMac is now faster than the cheapest iMac. New iMacs coming very shortly?

*raises hand*

after i realized that i really didn't *need* the power of a dual 2, and that i had been getting along just fine on a 266 g3, and the fact that most of the people i would want to get to switch wouldn't need a g5, and the fact that *most* of the users out there in mac land would have more than enough power with a 1.25g4 (even though it's fun to piss on it), the emac update sounded pretty good to me...

maybe i'm the cynic though... *cough*

just cause people want g5's everywhere doesn't mean that there's no need/reason for the low end machine to get an update as well...

fine, so it's an ok update, fact is that most (IMO) do want more (even if it's just a 1.6 G5 in an iMac), and the eMac didn't need an an update nearly as much as the rest of the product lines do.

So let me get this straight... the eMacs (YES, EMACS) now have the fastest superdrive (8X), have an equal speed processor as the midrange PRO line portable (15" powerbook) and also the same high speed RAM? Apple has really got their priorities screwed up. This machine is for those iPod window users who want to switch and for the everyday user. I'm not ripping on you guys, it's just you have had more attention lately. The hardcore users have been tossed aside. The proline has become stale, and Apple releases the FASTEST superdrive in their LOW END machine?

I'm sorry, but this is just insane.

The hardcore users bought a G5 six months ago, we're doing fine thank you. If Apple wants to compete with the likes of Dell, their Low End Machines MUST be competitive. I'm actually buying 6 emacs for my company this week, to use as web kiosks.

This is also a good sign that the iMacs are getting G5's very soon.

That's all fine and I'm glad you did buy 6 months ago. But as someone pointed out, not everyone buys on the same cycle.

I understand where you are coming from. But I don't think Apple is delaying their machines on purpose. Maybe the flat panel iMacs, as they don't want to update them to G5 before the Powermacs get updated. But the laptops? Apple will release them as soon as they are ready...
