View Full Version : Who do you use for web hosting?

I honestly have no idea where to ask this question but I need to find a site that lets me make a web page that supports php and mysql. All this site would be for is a little tiny database but php and mysql (and 10mb of space) are a requirement. I did a google search and there are a million options and I don't want to end up with a scam site. I don't have to really worry about bandwidth since only 4 people will be accessing it.

Does anyone have any suggestions on a host that can provide this that is legit? I did a forum search but it didn't turn up much info.

I looked into ASO and they seemed pricey to me also. I found a much better deal, with many more options, at Eleven2.com (http://www.eleven2.com)

I currently use Hostmonster. But I'm about to switch to webhostingpad.com (http://www.webhostingpad.com/3592.html) because they are offering a better deal, $3/month.

I was with startLogic, just switched to Fatcow and saved $40 for the year. They are actually owned by the same company. Fatcow has been more reliable for me than Startlogic was. They have a great deal right now, less than $50 for an entire year, and I got my domain name renewed for free.

I currently use Huevia.com. They're cheap and I haven't had any downtime in the three years I've been with them.

You do realise you don't really have unlimited anything don't you?

Unlimited with hosting places is like Olive Garden's unlimited soup, salad, and bread sticks lunch. They of course don't have a never ending supply of those things, but it's enough to get your fill for 99% of people. :)

hmm, must be breakfast time.

Unlimited Webspace.... unlimited bandwidth, unlimited mailboxes.

We get about 1,000 unique daily visits from people using "unlimited webspace" as a search phrase - so much so we branded our company to pick up on that.

I use Cartika hosting. Not the cheapest, but fully featured and the best tech support I have ever used by far.

I actually went to your site and yours is the first web hosting company website I have ever seen that I could not work out how to sign up for an account. I'd get that fixed pronto as you are most likely losing customers.

I really hope you don't require people to have flash to view your site properly.

oh, wow...me too. I would get rid of that random chick too, I have never, ever been fond of images of people on websites like that.

And how DO you sign up?? There are not links at all!

I use slicehost.com (http://www.slicehost.com). If you can manage your own Linux VPS using SSH, it's for you.

I use one that no one on here has posted about, yrhost. A friend of mine used their hosting for their site, and it worked pretty good. They've gotten better though. The customer support is good, but they're all from India so they speak pretty broken English. Still, I had issues with my domain, and they fixed it for me, and let me know that everything is up and running. I've been VERY satisfied with them, and the price is so low that you can't beat it. :D

Just go to GoDaddy.com and buy your domain name. You should have it in less than 3 minutes if you click through all the crap they put in the way before the checkout.

I haven't tried it yet because I haven't had time to set it up, but Zymic (http://www.zymic.com) has free (and ad free) web hosting with PHP and MySQL. However, a small paid hosting package might be a little more flexible and secure, which might be important depending on your needs.

I use SliceHost (https://manage.slicehost.com/customers/new?referrer=be16a95c2b6efb2d29b11297ccb3507b) for most of my apps these days. They are really reasonably priced, and a great option as long as you know what you're doing (and need root access)

I use This* Web Host (http://www.thiswebhost.com/clients/aff.php?aff=033). I love it. I had an issue with connecting to a database remotely a few weeks back. something like 10:00pm on a Sunday night, but I sent in an e-mail and had a solution returned within half an hour. The service, support is awesome and their prices are incredible for the stats of their packages.

I use A Small Orange like some, while it is expensive for what it is I have yet to have an issue with them. Whenever I contact support I get replies within 30 minutes at the latest (as quick as 2 min), and I live in Australia and they are based in the States!

I have heard that unlimited plans are bad, with ASO I have 75mb which seems very small however I have a wordpress blog, 4 domains, and plenty of pages and I'm only using 20mb.

Hi Guys, does it make sense for HostMDS to offer Mac Servers for hosting services?.

Does it make a difference to Mac users?. We are a Windows and Unix shop.

Mac's are not our world.

I'm asking you guys, because this is MacRumors.

let me know your thoughts.
