Hi guys,

I just purchased a new Nehalem 2.66 mac pro. I was looking to add internal drives that would allow for HD editing in FCP.

I understand I have to configure a RAID. What level would be most efficient for editing video? Someone recommended a Raid 5 to me.

Which formats could this handle? As high as DVCProHD? XDcam? How about HDCam compressed to ProRes?

Or do I need Fiber Channel to effectively edit this high of quality?

Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

You don't need a RAID array for any of that. I'm working on an XDCAM 1080p24 project right now on a single drive and it works fine. Even ProRes 1080p30 works fine.

I'm not to keen on RAID-5, but i have a SW RAID-0 array on bay 3 and 4 of my MP. Just for personal stuff, but i don't need it.

Just make sure your media is on a disk other than your boot drive and you'll be fine.
