The Valley!!
so heres the situation, ive had my macbook since january and its already gone in twice for a logicboard replacement because it kept shutting down. it just came back from apples "white glove repair" and theres was still problems. it kept freezing at the white apple screen and it kept freezing constantly at other periods. so i reinstalled leopard and it kept happening. it keeps freezing at the login screen where the apple and the little gear is, the little gear keeps freezing and i have to keep shutting off and turning it back on until im lucky enough 4 it 2 login and when it logins it freezes. im tired of this. ive searched many places and someone said it is a hardware prob. im tired of dealing with this, taking time out of my life constantly just to get my laptop repaired. if this is what the apple experience is id be happy to go back to my dell, ive had it. so is there a way i can return it without restocking fee?cus it wouldnt be fair to me since ive been having to get the same repair/logic board replacement once a month

If I remember correctly. If after 3 times, they still can't fix your computer, They are required to replace it.

If you can't get your apple store to replace it, you can also try Customer Service.

Stop downloading those porn :) Just because Mac are less prone to viruses does not make it right :) haha jk

Um... Theres a rule thingy on each state and after certain number of repairs, you are entitled to a new device.

EU mostly
Gather all info ie:when it was bought, repair dates, l repairs carried out, length of downtime for each repair, time on the phone to tech support etc etc etc.

then..

..send a letter detailing all this to the Apple store manager, be polite and request a fair solution ie a replacement, be clear your not trying to get something for nothing but a working machine is all you can expect when you part with your hard earned $$ and yours has been in for repair too many times imo, put this to the manager in a letter, send it recorded delivery and request they respond to you in writing within 7 business days kind of thing .

luck

This sums it up. Sometimes you just get a lemon, and logicboard replacements can be very problematic.

Calmly and politely present all the repair records and request a fully new unit.

Give them one more chance for a fix and then ask for a replacement. My mother had a first generation BMW X5 go in repair for the same problem 7 times before she found out about the lemon law and got herself a new car. By law they are required to replace the computer if it goes in for warranty repair 3 times for the same problem.

EDIT: And don't take a refurbished mac after the repair, they owe you a brand new one.

Unfortunately, it appears the official lemon law is for autos only.

Here's the one for Texas and here's the one for WV, where you live.

I cannot locate anything for electronics.

Does it freeze when you safe boot or while running fsck with a single user boot? Does it freeze when booting from the DVD?

You should ask for it to be replaced. Here is a similiar story but it might help idk...when my macbook was messed up and everytime i kept turning it on it shows a folder with a question mark on it, I decided to take it to the apple store, and i took it on the last day of warranty and they said they will fix it. before that my battery was screwed and i needed my charger everytime or else it wouldnt turn on at all, and if i took my charger off it would turn off. so i took it to best buy where ever i bought it from and they replaced the battery and the harddrive(?) and they were SUPPOSED to fix my broken o key but they didnt...anyways i took it home and it was still a question mark but this time my battery and harddrive were fixed so I saved a good 200 bucks and all of that was 0 bucks. I just reinstalled os x and boom :) worked like a charm. and yesturday i took my macbook to another apple store and they just took it to the back and popped a new o key in. yay! usually when you try hard enough you can get what you want :)

There are Lemon Laws for Consumer Electronics. Though they are different on each state. So some may not have it

Florida doesn't have anything like that. I think the only state that does is, ironically, California.

As for the laptop, I ran into similar problems with my 2.16 Merom MBP. I had it fixed three times. The first time they thought it was a bad sector on my HD, the second time they thought it was bad Ram, and then the third time they found it was actually a faulty logic board!

Everything works terrific now! My family has had an odd coincidence with faulty MBP's, however. Two of my brothers had their monitors and graphics cards die on them, and the other had a similar logic board problem...so there was a 100% correlation.....all problems happening within the first year! We were a bit frustrated, as well! While that doesn't sound like much of a defense to keep your Macbook or even deal with Apple....in their favor, they do have wonderful customer service, did a swift and prompt repair, and, I'm proud to say, all 4 of these machines are working at 100% capacity and in perfect order!

So, I say get a replacement and reap the benefits of owning a Macbook!

That sucks dude. Id be pissed, try calling apple customer relations be polite but dont take no for an answer. I just lost mine for the weekend because of a faulty power adapter, they wouldnt simply try it out and replace it. They took it in and wanted to test it thorough which is stupid.
