Our friends over at AppleInsider have the scoop on this news. Here's the link: http://www.appleinsider.com/article.php?id=418. Apparently Norton Utilities was being maintained by just one person until today. Maybe that's because of the bad reputation it has received both on these forums and Apple's own discussion forums.

Maybe it's a piece of crap that Norton/Symantec doesn't think will be worth the money to fix the bugs?

You're probably right - NUM was never worth it anyway and often caused more problems than it solved. That's why I don't use it anymore on my main Mac (I still use it with the Mac OS 9 and pre-9 machines I maintain).

That's too bad, I happen to like Norton Utilities. It just saved my life again about two weeks ago. If they want to stop NU why not just leave MacIntosh altogether? The only positive thing about Norton Antivirus is that it's easy to update. :(
