Firewire Question

If I purchase a Western Digital Mybook Studio 1TB drive, and plug that into FW800, then plug a Tascam FW-1082 into the Mybook with a 9-pin to 6-pin cord, will the entire FW800 port on the macbook be slowed to 400 speeds?

Basically My Guess is that its either A, or B.

A) The Tascam is able to use 400 mbits, and the HDD is free to use the remaining 400 throughput of the port.

B) The daisy-chained 400 device causes the entire 800 port to be slowed down, causing the 1082, and HDD to fight over 400 mbits of bandwith.

(I know my Macbook Has BOTH FW400, AND FW800, but I am considering moving to a low end 15" Unibody for size reasons)

Any firewire 400 devises connected to an 800 bus drop every connected devise to 400 speeds. If you have a macbook pro you can use an expresscard to add FW400 ports on a separate bus thus keeping 800 devises at 800 and 400 devises at 400.

Daisy chaining hard drives through soundcards is not a good idea as well-as you may get glitches in sound going through to the hard drive.

Mmk, I didn't know if this would happen for sure if the FW800 device was connected higher in the chain. Thanks. Maybe I'll just get an eSATA expresscard for the MBP for the HDD, and use the FW800 port to the FW400 on the 1082? Thanks though

I've regularly daisy chained Apogee Duet through a hard drive and never heard any such glitches.
