How do you confirm a rumor's validity? Doesn't that make it not a rumor anymore?

Are these powerbook and notebook updates a complete redesign or are they just speed bumps?. I just got a new ibook so I'm going to be pissed if I see a completely new apple ibook.

There is one rumor (I consider nothing more than idle speculation) that iBooks might be in for mini-ipod colour treatment.

Apple changes the design of every line more or less every 3 years. And they 'never changed the design in the Fall'
iBook 'iceBook' was introduced on May 1st, 2001. So, its been 3 years.
They are likely to indroduce a new form factor for the iBook.

I would have loved a green 12" iBook :(

The iBook G4 was a redesign. It more closely resembles the Powerbook G4 12" than the original iceBook. That was done last fall. So you are mistaken in both accounts. Granted it isn't as startling as a redesign from the toilet seat to the iceBook, but a redesign nontheless. Slot loading drive being the biggest difference externally. And first G4 inside.

If they have a new form factor in mind they are likely to hold it until they get G5 iBooks. Designing a totally new form factor is big work and Apple likes to do it, but to do it without a great product to make it move would be a disappointment.

Agreed! You pay people to design the new G5--coming out in 6 months to a year, not redesign a G4 which is selling fine as it is.
The G5 laptop is when they'll redesign--and then, only if they must in order to take care of the heat issue--which is what they've been discussing in regards to a G5 laptop since the G5 was unveiled.
These are likely just speed bumps, ibook included. And I doubt they'll color the ibooks. A Mini @ $250 they can afford to have in different colors. I mean, if they end up with a lot of unsold blue minis because blue isn't that popular, so what? They're only $250 each and you can take the hit--have a sale, make less minis in blue, etc. An iBook at $1000+ is a different story. You can't afford to have a lot of ibooks unsold because they were blue. Better to keep them white--striking and unique (compared to other laptops) but neutral. Not subject to what's currently a popular or unpopular color.

Can't agree. I would expect Apple is large enough to have different project teams working on the different products.
