View Full Version : iPhone Contacts Photo CoverFlow?

Hey all,

For a while now, I have been wondering about how to access the photos that are stored in your Contacts list. Is there a way to just look at those pictures without having to "edit" them within the contact information each time?

What I would really love to see is some sort of "cover flow" type of interface, where I could thumb through them and see all of those pictures. Say I'm talking to Steve about my friend Emily... I could them quickly pull up a full-screen pic of here to show him (without having to keep a photo library dedicated to just friend pics).

I would also be happy with just a list of the contacts who I have photos of, with or without thumbnails, so that I can just click on the name and get a full pic. I think you all probably get the idea.

Anyways, if anyone knows of an Application that does this, please let me know. I have searched a few App sites and this forum, but it is so hard to find any good results when you aren't even sure of the search terms to use.

Or if there is no such application and somebody wants to develop one, I would probably be one of your first buyers!

i honestly have been thinking about this since the iphone came out. not sure why they wouldn't have incorporated cover flow into contacts. almost everything else they have is getting the cover flow treatment so i would assume at some time they will bring this to the native contacts app.

Here you are PICTUREDIALER (http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=293627441&mt=8)

You have the option to have one contact (full screen pic) per page, plus a scroll down feature and customizable frames and backgrounds.

The app of your dreams aye?

Its free ... and you're most welcome.

Unfortunately, devs can't use the Cover Flow libraries. Any apps that use them will get rejected. So if someone made a Contacts app with a Cover Flow-like implementation, it would have to be a custom implementation of it.

Even custom coverflow tends to get denied. For infringing on patents that belong to Apple.

there is an application called ContactFlow available on Cydia.

however i don't recommend it. i just don't see a point to look through photos to find someone to call. especially if you have to open another app so the application can open the phone app and dial that #.

you can try using Cyntact which displays photos next to contacts in the phone list too.

I believe this is changing in 3.0

I don't think so. I think Cover Flow is still forbidden.

Hmmm... Cyntact is getting close to what I would like to see, but still no cigar.

Why not just a simple app where I can type in a person's name, or choose it from a list, and it displays the Contact photo?

PictureDialer keeps crashing on me :(

they said that the coverflow API would be available during the keynote...

Almost positive they didn't say anything about letting up Coverflow. But if you happen to find that part of the presentation and post the time stamp, I'd have no problem admitting I'm wrong,

I'll look for it, I'm not totally sure, I just remember the presenter saying it. Memories can be faulty. I'll post back in a little while with my results.

I don't recall them saying that, and it's certainly not there in the current 3.0 SDK.

You're right. I just skimmed the keynote and couldn't find anything. That's too bad, I was pretty sure we would be getting some pretty apps :(
Oh well. Developers will wow us in other ways.
