http://batteryuni************/

Your one stop shop for learning all things battery. Your current capacity is higher because cycling the battery a few times will work the chemicals to their full capacity. Additionally Li-on batteries start degrading the second they come off the manufacturing line. So the fresher your battery the larger your initial capacity is going to be, regardless of the manufactured capacity of the battery. Buy a MBP that's been sitting on the shelf for a year, the battery is going to have degraded a few %, the trade off you get for the high energy density of Li-on cells.

***EDIT***
Is there some sort of filter I'm not aware of? I'm trying to link to Battery University, eh just google it I guess.

Supposedly, my Mac is from around the year 29 BC. 2 years before "the Roman Senate's granting to Octavian the honorific Augustus" according to Wikipedia.

Application glitches aside, I'm very unimpressed with the battery. The Mac is actually only a little over 20 months old. And Apple, of course in their infinite wisdom, will not replace the battery. My next laptop will be an ASUS netbook, thank you very much...

For 200 loadcycles, your battery is doing very well. Asus won't replace your battery for normal use, and it won't be magically better than the battery inside your Mac.

And there's no use blaming Apple, they don't make the batteries...

Also for a 1 month old battery, is 97% of total current charge normal? I always drain all my battery before plugging it with adapter and let it drain again..

I went to the store yesterday with mine and they told me that apple released a test application, telling if the battery is "bad". If so, they will replace it free of charge, regardless of AppleCare. That was the case with mine. Somewhere in the back of my mind I think I remember that there was a problem with certain batteries, so I guess that this is what it is about. I would go back and have it checked out.

I have got too say that this is actually very decent for a 40 month old machine. It has been in daily use and I´ve never replaced the battery. I was told once that the batteries were made to last around 500 cycles..? I still have 3-4 hour use-time, ofcourse, not when I watch movies and stuff.

And to the guy who said he always drained the battery completely before recharging; Lithium batteries like it best when they can be re-charged when they are at 30-90 % of capacity. Do NOT drain fully.

It's actually 300 cycles for an laptop average. Basically what it means is that the battery will, and should last at least 300 cycles and still maintain 80% health. That's just a standard marker, not an actual thing that has to happen.

Here's mine on my MacBook Air. Yes, I do use my battery a lot, it's gone through over 500 cycles just over 7 months since purchase.

Notebook batteries consist of individual cells, such as a 6-cell battery.
Is there any way to estimate the overall capacity of a notebook battery from the number of its cells? How much capacity does such a cell typically have?

When selecting a notebook battery,such as hp pavilion dv6000 battery udtekHP/Compaq Pavilion DV6000 Battery 12-cells 8800MAH Description:
Cell Type: Li-ion, 12-cells
Voltage: 10.8V
Capacity: 8800MAH
UL certificated cells inside!

http://www.udtek.com/hpcompaq-pavilion-dv6000-battery-12cells-8800mah-p-20875.html

manufacturers will often list an amount of “cells,” where each cell has a certain capacity; thus a 9 cell has 50% more capacity than an equal model 6-cell battery. That is useful for comparing directly, but the story is more complex if you wanted to compare different batteries on different laptops. Batteries have a voltage rating (V) and milli-Amp hours (mAH), which, if multiplied together, give you milliwatt hours.

For example, a 14.8 V battery with 4460 mAH gives you 66,000 milliwatt hours (66 watt-hours). You can compare laptop batteries this way, but also keep in mind that different laptops have very different power requirements that vary based on the components and how well the operating system manages power consumption. Typically, bigger, heavier batteries will give you a higher watt-hour rating. A 6-cell battery may be the same form factor as a 9-cell, but the 6-cell will weigh less since there’s less chemical in it to hold onto that charge.

If you are a mobile warrior, you will want the most cells and/or most watt-hours you can get into your model so you can go 5 or 6 hours without a recharge. It is so painful to run out of power before you are ready. ” And here I suggest you a online-shop to buy good notebook batteries. My friends have bought from udtek.com .There are many computers hardwares on udtek.com. She thought it’s a good service , fast shipping shop, and high quality shop.May be it’s good idea for us to see what products we need .

Nice ad, however, Apple batteries don't use cells. They are custom shaped design battery "cells"
