I have been having some issues with bluetooth on the new 24" iMacs.

Basically the Mighty Mouse will stop functioning (No clicking, tracking or scrolling) even though it still shows it connected in the menu. Turning the mouse on and off does not work. Removing the batteries and re-inserting them does not work.

I have to plug another mouse in, disconnect the mouse from the menu and then reconnect the mouse.

Happens about every other day and it is ANNOYING!!!

I had the same issue with my previous Imac and spent four months with tech support and repair shop and still no one could remedy this issue.
So they finally decided to send me a new one.
And now i wat like all the others here.

My advice get onto tech support about it and demand action!!

Try deleting com.apple.bluetooth.plist from Macintosh HD\Library\

Na, that's not the answer. I have a STRONG feeling this is software related. I have seen it on 2 New iMacs already...

This happened the first time on my new 24inch imac today that I just bought on 3/28/09. I was doing homework and my screen went black i guess went to sleep so i tried to hit the mouse and keyboard to awake it nothing. So i had to plug another mouse to make the bluetooth work any solutions?

I agree %100 but when i negotiated replacement i got upgraded to 1tb hard drive and the ATI card.
I just hope this one doesn't have the freeze bug.

Oh and by the way the techs had eliminated all software issues and the repair center eliminated all software issues leaving only hardware.....I just got fed up as it felt as though i was working a part time job for :apple:

Long time Apple user, I've seen software issues that were said to be hardware issues.

Like first gen aluminum Mac with graphics freezing. Tons of people got replacement macs and then a patch came out a few weeks later.

Then the original iPod Touch. With the greenish/negative dark images. Also said to be hardware then turned out to be software again.

mine was doing the same thing

hasn't done it lately though

but to fix mine all i had to to was open bluetooth preferences, and it would magically start working again. didn't actually have to enable / disable bluetooth like i was doing at first

so now i use the bluetooth controller widget.. if it ever does act up again, i can hit the dashboard button then hit the O button to bring up bluetooth preferences, which will fix it for me. just have to make sure the bluetooth widget is the active one

I have this problem as well except I have the wireless mouse and keyboard. So when it disconnects I have to reboot the computer. I hope this can be fixed.

The issue described in the original post is exactly the problem I am having with my iMac 2.93 GHz.

1) For no apparent reason the Mighty Mouse stops functioning even though it is still "connected" to the iMac. Frozen so to speak.
2) Plug in my old "Microsoft Intellimouse" via USB and the mouse works.
3) Go to the Bluetooth preferences and disconnect then re-connect the Mighty Mouse and all is well again.

This has been happening twice a day to me while using the computer. I have turned the mouse off then on again - changed batteries twice - turned off all other Bluetooth devices including iPhone - nothing has helped.

I called Apple support 3x so far and they are sending me a new Mighty Mouse, but I am not so sure that the mouse is the problem. I will see what happens with the new one when I get it, but for now I will keep my Microsoft mouse close by for when the Mighty Mouse freezes up...

I hope Apple comes up with a permanent fix without having to ship the iMac back to Apple being it is less than 1 week old and my first Mac...

This is for Irish British so you called Apple and complained about the bluetooth mouse and keyboard, and got upgraded to a faster iMac and better graphics card? Will they upgrade my iMac that I just bought 3/28/09 if I complain?

You won't know unless you try.
Remember i said i spent four months at this with the tech support/repair people and i just wanted it fixed but they could not succeed at that. And there solution was (Replacement) And so i pushed for all i could get,Four months of this happening daily was all i could take and lost all confidence in that particular Imac.

My advice:the squeaky wheel always gets the oil.

Same here. Got my new 24" iMac last week. Already happened, twice. Mouse completely froze. Had to plug in a wired mouse and set things up all over again.

Quite annoying.

PS. This never happened with my old 20" iMac, and I was using the same mouse, literally.

I did not think i had this problem but i do

the strange thing is it only occurs using safari 4 beta , i normally let my IMac sleep , the bluetooth never fails during sleep ,ie the mouse will always wake up the mac

This is a software issue, Apple just needs to become aware of it.

Interesting note:

My mouse froz like it has done several times. I was on my way out the door so i didn't have time to fix it. Came back about 6 hours later and it was working again.

They are aware of this issue:D And it puzzles me that after all this time they can't address it.
On several of the times i called in with this problem, I was told by the support and the repair center that it was hardware and they were adamant that it was not a software issue...Hence the reason they had to fully replace mine.
Having worked on computers over the years and being a student in the IT field i have to categorize this under unexplained mysteries.

I don't know what to think.........

Just make sure Apple is aware of this issue, call, email, talk to local store so they get a fix ASAP!

Just started haveing this same issue over the last week. Same as all the rest. I don't have another mouse so the only way to get back up is to hold the power but and reboot the unit. RRRRR!!!

I've the same problem with bluetooth. I've to reconnect the keyboard and the mouse several times.
And under bootcamp with xp, i've an error (code 43). To fix it, the solution is to desactivate the open usb controller and reboot.

This problem and the ati 4850 freeze, i've really no chance with the new imac....

I have the same issue with my imac 4850.

Could bluetooth be causing the freezing ?
