So last year I went to "Memphis in May" and had a blast and since then I have been really into blues music. I have been listening to a lot of B.B. King, Jonny Lang, Muddy Waters, Koko Taylor, Susan Tedeschi, and John Lee Hooker. Looking for more recommendations as to what I should sample. There are a lot of artists I know nothing about. Looking for something of the "electric blues" style perferred.

Check out my blues collection (in my signature if its working) and you might find a bunch of nice titles there!

SRVaughan, Mississippi John Hurt, Albert, BB, Freddie King, T-Bone Walker, Muddy Waters, Bo Diddley, Howlin' Wolf, R.L. Burnside (very interesting Wish I was in Heaven Sittin' Down album...)

But GREATEST OF ALL: Eric Clapton, ESPECIALLY Derek and the Dominos "Live at the Fillmore East"!!!!!!

Cool site. I'll check some of these out. Still got a few Pepsi caps to cash in on. Thanks.

Did not know Aerosmith had a blues album (you had the single on your site). Good stuff, man. Again... thanks!

I'd also recommend Eric Clapton's "From the Cradle" -- one of my favorite CDs of his.

Clapton has a new album in which he performs 14 of his favorite Robert Johnson songs, and returns to his blues roots. Its a very good album.

You should also check out Buddie Guy, The Converters (new band with a very lively blues sound), and Albert King & Stevie Ray Vaughn - In Session which is a great little cd.

I like Clapton's new one, but I haven't had enough time to digest it yet, so the jury is still out. The question is, does Clapton add something especially new, or are they straightforward covers? If so, I really like the originals pretty well. As far as Clapton goes, for good Blues, I would get "From the Cradle" (previously mentioned and I think it is an essential CD to own for anyone. It basically introduced me to the blues genre.) Also, the "Blues" compilation is excellent (heck save your time, get Crossroads 1 & 2, the Cream Box Set, and the previously mentioned Derek and the Dominos!) Of course, the CD with BB is very good. Many consider Clapton's CD with John Mayall (Clapton with John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers) as an essential Blues album and a pivotal moment in the formational history of rock guitar sound. It's hard to go wrong with Clapton (unless you get something not blues like pilgrim...)

I second the Albert King and SRV CD, good quality! I would also highly recommend Jimi Hendrix "Blues" CD, an exceptional guitarist turning in amazing renditions of some great blues.

For newer bands doing good blues stuff, check out Gov't Mule, Robert Randolph and the Family Band, and the North Mississippi Allstars. I haven't heard of "The Converters," I'll have to check them out!

p.s. some great blues songs like Howlin' Wolf's "Spoonful" have been submitted as recommendations on DailyTunes, you can browse the Blues genre and find excellent choices with links directly to iTunes. For a good start check out all the recommendations I put on Cream's "White Room" just recently submitted! :D

I'd recommend anything by Robert Cray. I've seen him live, and he's a damned good guitar player. ;)
