I mean, what songs really speak to you when you hear them--songs with lyrics that really strike a chord in you?

"Raining in Baltimore" by Counting Crows

This circus is falling down on its knees
The big top is crumbling down
It's raining in Baltimore fifty miles east
Where you should be, no one's around

I need a phone call
I need a raincoat
I need a big love
I need a phone call

These train conversations are passing me by
And I don't have nothing to say
You get what you pay for
But I just had no intention of living this way

I need a phone call
I need a plane ride
I need a sunburn
I need a raincoat

And I get no answers
And I don't get no change
It's raining in Baltimore, baby
But everything else is the same

There's things I remember and things I forget
I miss you I guess that I should
Three thousand five hundred miles away
But what would you change if you could?

I need a phone call
Maybe I should buy a new car
I can always hear a freight train
Baby, if I listen real hard

And I wish, I wish it was a small world
Because I'm lonely for the big towns
I'd like to hear a little guitar
I guess it's time to put the top down
I need a phone call
I need a raincoat
I really need a raincoat
I really really need a rain coat
I really really really need a rain coat
I really need a raincoat

Five Iron Frenzy: On Distant Shores

I have been scarred so deep by life and cold despair,
and brittle bones were broken far beyond repair.
I have leveled lies so deep, the truth may never find.
And inside my faithless heart, I stole things never mine.

If mercy falls upon the broken and poor, Dear Father,
I will see you, there on distant shores.

I have toiled for countless years, and ever felt the cost,
and I've been burned by this world's cold,
like leaves beneath the frost.
On my knees I've crawled to you, bleeding myself dry,
But the price of life is more, then I could ever buy.

If mercy falls upon the broken and poor, Dear Father,
I will see you, there on distant shores.

And off of the blocks, I was headstrong and proud,
at the front of the line for the card-carring, highbrowed.
With both eyes fastened tight, yet unscarred from the fight.
Running at full tilt, my sword pulled from it's hilt.
Its funny how these things can slip away, our frail deeds,
the last will wave good-bye. Its funny how the hope will bleed away,
the citadels we build and fortify. Good-bye.
Night came and I broke my stride, I swallowed hard, but never cried.
When grace was easy to forget, I'd denounce the hypocrites,
casting first stones, killing my own. You would unscale my blind eyes,
and I stood battered, but more wise, fighting to accelerate,
shaking free from crippling weight. With resilience surpassed,
I clawed my way to you at last. And on my knees,
I wept at your feet, I finally believed, that you still loved me.

Healing hands of God's mercy on our unclean souls once again,
Jesus Christ, Light of the world, burning bright
within our hearts forever. Freedom means love without condition
without beginning or an end. Here's my heart let it be forever yours.
only you can make every new day seem so new.

I know its sappy, but I'm a hopeless romantic and it describes my life lately. I hate having to be patient...

–––––––––––––––––––––––––

If you're not the one then why does my soul feel glad today?
If you're not the one then why does my hand fit yours this way?
If you are not mine then why does your heart return my call
If you are not mine would I have the strength to stand at all

I never know what the future brings
But I know you are here with me now
We'll make it through
And I hope you are the one I share my life with

I don't want to run away but I can't take it, I don't understand
If I'm not made for you then why does my heart tell me that I am?
Is there any way that I can stay in your arms?

If I don't need you then why am I crying on my bed?
If I don't need you then why does your name resound in my head?
If you're not for me then why does this distance maim my life?
If you're not for me then why do I dream of you as my wife?

I don't know why you're so far away
But I know that this much is true
We'll make it through
And I hope you are the one I share my life with
And I wish that you could be the one I die with
And I pray in you're the one I build my home with
I hope I love you all my life

I don't want to run away but I can't take it, I don't understand
If I'm not made for you then why does my heart tell me that I am
Is there any way that I can stay in your arms?

'Cause I miss you, body and soul so strong that it takes my breath away
And I breathe you into my heart and pray for the strength to stand today
'Cause I love you, whether it's wrong or right
And though I can't be with you tonight
And know my heart is by your side

I don't want to run away but I can't take it, I don't understand
If I'm not made for you then why does my heart tell me that I am
Is there any way that I can stay in your arms?

Hmm interesting. I heard that song on the radio...kinda thought it was more of a "pop" kind of song. But yeah, good stuff. I've been having a hard time trying to organize this in iTunes...is this Slow Jams? Pop? Miscellaneous? I hate it when genres blend...harder for my to organize

Brian Wilson/Mike Love (Tony Asher and Van Dyke Parks, uncredited lyricists)

I, I love the colorful clothes she wears
And the way the sunlight plays upon her hair
I hear the sound of a gentle word
On the wind that lifts her perfume through the air

I'm pickin' up good vibrations
She's giving me excitations
I'm pickin' up good vibrations
(Oom bop bop good vibrations)
She's giving me excitations
(Oom bop bop excitations)
Good good good good vibrations

She's giving me excitations
(Oom bop bop excitations)
Good good good good vibrations
(Oom bop bop)
She's giving me excitations

Close my eyes
She's somehow closer now
Softly smile, I know she must be kind
When I look in her eyes
She goes with me to a blossom world

I'm pickin' up good vibrations
She's giving me excitations
I'm pickin' up good vibrations
(Oom bop bop good vibrations)
She's giving me excitations

Wherever I May Roam - Metallica
From SM

...and the road becomes my bride
I have stripped of all but pride
so in her I do confide
and she keeps me satisfied
gives me all I need

...and with dust in throat I crave
only knowledge will I save
to the game you stay a slave
rover wanderer
nomad vagabond
call me what you will

but I'll take my time anywhere
free to speak my mind anywhere
and I'll redefine anywhere
anywhere I may roam
where I lay my head is home

...and the earth becomes my throne
I adapt to the unknown
under wandering stars I've grown
by myself but not alone
I ask no one

...and my ties are severed clean
the less I have the more I gain
off the beaten path I reign
rover wanderer
nomad vagabond
call me what you will

but I'll take my time anywhere
I'm free to speak my mind anywhere
and I'll never mind anywhere
anywhere I may roam
where I lay my head is home

but i'll take my time anywhere
free to speak my mind
and I'll take my find anywhere
anywhere I may roam
where I lay my head is home

carved upon my stone
my body lie, but still I roam
wherever I may roam

Linkin Park-By Myself

What do I do to ignore them behind me?
Do I follow my instincts blindly?
Do I hide my pride / from these bad dreams
And give in to sad thoughts that are maddening?
Do I / sit here and try to stand it?
Or do I / try to catch them red - handed?
Do I trust some and get fooled by phoniness,
Or do I trust nobody and live in loneliness?
Because I can’t hold on / when I’m stretched so thin
I make the right moves but I’m lost within
I put on my daily façade but then
I just end up getting hurt again

by myself [myself]
I ask why, but in my mind
I find I can’t rely on myself

[myself]
I ask why, but in my mind
I find I can’t rely on myself

I can’t hold on
To what I want when I’m stretched so thin
It’s all too much to take in
I can’t hold on
To anything watching everything spin
With thoughts of failure sinking in

If I
Turn my back I’m defenseless
And to go blindly seems senseless
If I hide my pride and let it all go on / then they’ll
Take from me ‘till everything is gone
If I let them go I’ll be outdone
But if I try to catch them I’ll be outrun
If I’m killed by the questions like a cancer
Then I’ll be buried in the silence of the answer

[by myself]
[myself]
I ask why, but in my mind
I find I can’t rely on myself
[myself]
I ask why, but in my mind
I find I can’t rely on myself

I can’t hold on
To what I want when I’m stretched so thin
It’s all too much to take in
I can’t hold on
To anything watching everything spin
With thoughts of failure sinking in

How do you think / I’ve lost so much
I’m so afraid / I’m out of touch
How do you expect / I will know what to do
When all I know / Is what you tell me to
Don’t you (know)
I can’t tell you how to make it (go)
No matter what I do, how hard I (try)
I can’t seem to convince myself (why)
I’m stuck on the outside

How do you think / I’ve lost so much
I’m so afraid / I’m out of touch
How do you expect / I will know what to do
When all I know / Is what you tell me to
Don’t you (know)
I can’t tell you how to make it (go)
No matter what I do, how hard I (try)
I can’t seem to convince myself (why)
I’m stuck on the outside

I can’t hold on
To what I want when I’m stretched so thin
It’s all too much to take in
I can’t hold on
To anything watching everything spin
With thoughts of failure sinking in

I can’t hold on
To what I want when I’m stretched so thin
It’s all too much to take in
I can’t hold on
To anything watching everything spin
With thoughts of failure sinking...

Never Gonna Say I'm Sorry by Ace of Base
I really love this song. It's kinda the loser anthem for someone who doesn't quite fit in with the people around him/her. And that's kinda the same for me. But I'm glad it's not a depressing song - hapiness rocks!

I´m never gonna say I´m sorry,
I´m a clown for everyone
I´m never gonna let you down,
I´m always here like a sun

I´m a loser, that is fact for sure
I´m happy even if you don´t want
To invite me out for a dance tonight
I´m not normal, I know it, I don´t care

I´m never gonna say I´m sorry,
I´m a clown for everyone
I´m never gonna let you down,
I´m always here like a sun
I´m always here like a sun, I´m always here

Like a ghost I follow your steps so true
You don´t have to bribe me or fill me up
Give me just a minute to shine with you
I will make you so happy, make you laugh

I´m never gonna say I´m sorry for
the essence of my soul
There´s so many ways to change my life
´Cause I want to...oh
I´m a clown, I´m fun for everyone...

I never gonna say I´m sorry...

"Top of the World"
by Patty Griffin, performed by the Dixie Chicks

I wished I was smarter
Wished I was stronger
I wished I loved Jesus
The way the my wife does

I wished it'd been easier
Instead of any longer
I wished I could've stood
Where you would've been proud
That won't happen now
That won't happen now

There's a whole lot of singing
That's never gonna be heard
Disppearing every day
Without so much as a word
Somehow

I think I broke the wings
Off that little songbird
And she's never gonna fly
To the top of the world Now
To the top of the world

I don't have to answer
Any of these questions
Don't have no god to
Teach me no lessons

I come home in the evening
Sit in my chair
One night they called me for supper
But I never got up
I just stayed right there
In my chair

There's a whole lot of singing
That's never gonna be heard
Disappearing every day
Without so much as a word
Somehow

I think I broke the wings
Off a little songbird
And she's never gonna fly
To the top of the world
Now
To the top of the world

I wished I'd had known you
Wished I had shown you
All of the things I
Was on the inside
But I'd pretend to be sleeping
When you'd come in in the morning
To whisper goodbye
Go work in the rain
I don't know why
Don't know why

Cause everyone's singing
We just wanna be heard
Disappearing every day
Without so much as a word
Somehow

Gonna grab a hold
Of that little songbird
And take her for a ride
To the top of the world
Right now
To the top of the world

I have a feeling this will be a long post because there are a couple songs that really speak to me.

Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You - Lauryn Hill

You're just too good to be true.
Can't take my eyes off you.
You'd be like heaven to touch.
I wanna hold you so much.
At long last love has arrived.
And I thank God I'm alive.
You're just too good to be true.
Can't take my eyes off of you.

Pardon the way that I stare.
There's nothing else to compare.
The sight of you leaves me weak.
There are no words left to speak.
But if you feel like I feel.
Please let me know that it's real.
You're just too good to be true.
Can't take my eyes off of you.

I need you baby, and if it's quite all right,
I need you baby to warm a lonely night.
I love you baby. Trust in me when I say OK:
Oh pretty baby, don't let me down I pray.
Oh pretty baby, now that I found you, stay.
And let me love you,
oh baby let me love you, oh baby....

You're just too good to be true.
Can't take my eyes off you.
You'd be like heaven to touch.
I wanna hold you so much.
At long last love has arrived.
And I thank God I'm alive.
You're just too good to be true.
Can't take my eyes off of you.

I need you baby, and if it's quite all right,
I need you baby to warm a lonely night.
I love you baby. Trust in me when I say it's OK
Oh pretty baby, don't let me down I pray.
Oh pretty baby, now that I found you, stay.
And let me love you,
oh baby let me love you, oh baby....

I need you baby, and if it's quite all right,
I LOVE you baby to warm a lonely night.
I NEED you baby. Trust in me when I say it's OK
Oh pretty baby, don't let me down I pray. Oh pretty
baby, now that I found you, stay. And let me
love you, oh baby let me love you, oh baby....

I am ready for love - India Arie

I am ready for love
Why are you hiding from me
I'd quickly give my freedom
To be held in your captivity

I am ready for love
All of the joy and the pain
And all the time that it takes
Just to stay in your good grace
Lately I've been thinking
Maybe you're not ready for me
Maybe you think I need to learn maturity
They say watch what you ask for
Cause you might receive
But if you ask me tomorrow
I'll say the same thing

I am ready for love
Would you please lend me your ear?
I promise I won't complain
I just need you to acknowledge I am here

If you give me half a chance
I'll prove this to you
I will be pacient, kind, faithful and true
To a man who loves music
A man who loves art
Respect's the spirit world
And thinks with his heart

I am ready for love
If you'll take me in your hands
I will learn what you teach
And do the best that I can

I am ready for love
Here with a offering of
My voice
My Eyes
My soul
My mind

Tell me what is enough
To prove I am ready for love

I am ready

You Don't Know My Name - Alicia Keys

Baby, baby, Baby
From the day I saw you
Really, really wanted to catch your eye
Somethin' special bout' you
I must really like you
'Cause not a lot of guys are worth my time

Oh baby, baby, baby
It's getting kind of crazy
'Cause you are taking over my mind

(Chorus)
And it feels like oooooh
You Don't know my name
I swear, it feels like ooooooh
You Don't know my name
(round and round and round we go,will you ever know)

Oh! Baby, baby, baby
I see us on our first date
Doing everything that makes me smile
When we had our first kiss
It happened on a Thursday
ooh it set my soul on fire
oooh Baby, baby, baby
I can't wait for the first time
My imagination's running wild

(Chorus)
It feels like oooooh
You Don't Know My Name
And I swear it Baby, it feels like ooooooh
You Don't Know My name
(Round and round and round we go, will you ever know)

I'm sayin, he don't even know what he's doin to me
Got me feelin all crazy inside
I'm feelin like, Oh!
Doing nothing I've ever done, for anyone's attention
Take notice of what's in front of me
'Cause did I mention (oh!) You bout' to miss a good thing
And you'll never know how good it feels
To have, all my affection
And you'll never get a chance to experience, my lovin (oh!)
'Cause my lovin feels like

(Chorus)
oooooh
You Don't Know my name
And I swear it feels like
oooooooh
You Don't my name

Will you ever know it?
I'm going to have to go ahead and just call this boy
Hello, can I speak to..to Michael
Oh hey, how ya' doin'?
I feel kinda' silly doin' this, but uh
This is the waitress from the coffee house on 39th and Lennox
(Chuckle) you know the one with the braids?
Yeah
Well I see you on Wednesday's, all the time
You come on every Wednesday on your lunch brake I think
You always order the special, with the hot chocolate
Look man I mean, I know girls don't usually do this
But I was wonderin'
if maybe we could get together outside the restaurant one day
You know, 'cause I do look a lot different outside my work clothes
(Chuckle) Wait a minute, my cell phones breakin' up
Can you hear me now?
yeah, so what day did you say?
Oh, Thursday's perfect

(Chorus)
And it feels like oooohhh
You Don't Know My name
And I swear on my mother and father it feels like
oooooooh
oooooooh
oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh
Will you ever know?

Fantasy by Mariah Carey

(Shoe do do do do do do do)
(Shoe do do do do do do yeah)
(Shoe do do do do do do do)
(Shoe do do do do do do yeah)
(Shoe do do do do do do do)
(Shoe do do do do do do yeah)

Oh, when you walk by every night
Talking sweet and looking fine
I get kinda hectic inside
Mmm, baby I'm so into you
Darling, if you only knew
All the things that flow through my mind

(But it's just a) sweet, sweet fantasy, baby
When I close my eyes
You come and you take me
(On and on and on)
So deep in my daydreams
But it's just a sweet, sweet fantasy, baby

(Shoe do do do do do do do)
(Shoe do do do do do do yeah)
(Shoe do do do do do do do)
(Shoe do do do do do do yeah)
(Shoe do do do do do do do)
(Shoe do do do do do do yeah)
(Shoe do do do do do do do)
(Shoe do do do do do do yeah)

Images of rapture
Creep into me slowly
As you're going to my head
And my heart beats faster
When you take me over
Time and time and time again

(But it's just a) sweet, sweet fantasy, baby
When I close my eyes
You come and you take me
(On and on and on)
So deep in my daydreams
But it's just a sweet, sweet fantasy, baby

(Shoe do do do do do do do)
(Shoe do do do do do do yeah)
(Shoe do do do do do do do)
(Shoe do do do do do do yeah)
(Shoe do do do do do do do)
(Shoe do do do do do do yeah)
(Shoe do do do do do do do)
(Shoe do do do do do do yeah)

(It's just a) sweet, sweet fantasy, baby
When I close my eyes
You come and you take me
(On and on and on)
So deep in my daydreams
But it's just a sweet, sweet fantasy, baby

I'm in heaven
With my boyfriend
My laughing boyfriend
There's no beginning
And there is no end
Feels like I'm dreaming
But I'm not sleeping

(It's just a) sweet, sweet fantasy, baby
When I close my eyes
You come and you take me
(On and on and on)
So deep in my daydreams
But it's just a sweet, sweet fantasy, baby

Sweet, sweet fantasy, baby
When I close my eyes
You come and you take me
(On and on and on)
So deep in my daydreams
But it's just a sweet, sweet fantasy, baby

Sweet, sweet fantasy, baby
Sweet, sweet fantasy, baby

Octavo Día by Shakira really touches me. It's about peace and war and God. I love it even though I'm not religious AT ALL. I'll type Spanish and English lyrics.

Octavo Día
------------

pueda conversar

mientras tanto este mundo gira y gira
sin poderlo detener
aquí abajo unos cuantos nos manejan
como fishas de ajedrez
no soy la clase de idiota
que se deja convencer
pero digo la verdad
y hasta un ciego lo puede ver

si a falta de ocupación
o de exesiva soldedad
Dios no resistiera más
y se marchara a otro lugar
sería nuestra perdición
no habría otro remedio más
que adorar a Michael Jackson
a Bill Clinton o a Tarzán

es más dificil ser rey sin corona
que una persona más normal
pobre de Dios que no sale en revistas
que no es model ni artista o de familia real

Now in English

Eighth Day
------------
On the eighth day, God, after so much work,
to relieve tensions, after looking things over,
said "everything's good, it's time to rest"
and went on a stroll through outer space

who would have imagined that the same God upon return
would find everything in a fatty mess
and that he would become another unemployed
of the rate that increases annually without stopping

since then there are those who have seen him
alone in the streets, travelling
walking and waiting paciently for someone
with whom at least he can have a calm conversation

while the world keeps on turning
without being able to stop it,
and down here a few people control us
like chess pieces
I'm not the kind of idiot
that can be convinced
but I speak the truth,
and I will until a blind man can see it for himself

if he was out of work
or out of alone time,
God wouldn't resist anymore
and he would take himself somewhere else
it would be our perdition
there wouldnt be any remedy
beside worshipping Michael Jackson,
Bill Clinton, or Tarzan

it's harder to be king without a crown
than a more normal person
poor God isn't seen in magazines
he's not a model, an artist, or from a royal family

I love it because it shows that this world has come to disregard peace, etc. I think it's so powerful, especially since it's a favorite of an Atheist!

did you happen to catch
or did it happen so fast
what you thought would always last
has passed you by
is everything speeding up
or am I slowing down
just spinning around
and I don't know why
all the pieces don't fit
thought I didn't give a sh--
I never wanted to be like you
but for all I aspire
I am really a liar
and I'm running out of things I can do

I'd like to stay
but every day
everything pushes me further away
if you could show
help me to know
how it's supposed to be
where did it go?

pleading and
needing and
bleeding and
breeding and
feeding
exceeding
where is everybody?
trying and lying
defying denying
crying and dying
where is everybody?

well okay, enough,
you've had your fun
but come on thare has to be someone
that hasn't yet become
so numb and succumb
and god damn I am so tired of pretending
of wishing I was ending
when all I'm really doing is trying to hide
and keep it inside
and fill it with lies
open my eyes?
maybe I wish I could try

pleading and needing
and bleeding and breeding
and feeding exceeding
where is everybody?
trying and lying
defying denying
crying and dying
where is everybody?

I've always thought NIN was very thought provoking, and this one makes you reflect on the meaning of existence, what's the point of it all? I especially like "The Wall" reference.

The Bled-"Sounds of Sulfur"

Waiting for the sun to set my wings ablaze.
The show must go on.
The funeral needs star.
Tonight I have become the gossip and the choir.
The useless and the used.
The one who reaches for her arms.
I am denial.
You are the one who fell from grace for them.
Is there a reason why?
The funeral needs a star.
As you walk away for the last time
could you hear my heart consumed behind you?
As you turn your back from the dying
did you feel the sun burn out inside you?
You set my wings ablaze.
You will run from familiar arms into their embrace.
I hope they love you like I did when you needed me
and I came to you that night.

The song that truly speaks to me, like none other, is "Dinah-Moe-Humm", from The Mothers of Invention's "Over-Nite Sensation". It goes a little something like this...

I couldn’t say where she’s coming’ from,
But I just met a lady named dinah-moe humm

She stroll on over, say look here, bum,
I got a forty dollar bill say you can’t make me cum
(y’jes can’t do it)

She made a bet with her sister who’s a little dumb
She could prove it any time all men was scum

I don’t mind that she called me a bum,
But I knew right away she was really gonna cum
(so I got down to it)

I whipped off her bloomers’n stiffened my thumb
An’ applied rotation on her sugar plum

I poked’n stroked till my wrist got numb
But I still didn’t hear no dinah-moe humm,
Dinah-moe humm

Dinah-moe humm
Dinah-moe humm
Where this dinah-moe
Comin’ from
Done spent three hours
An’ I ain’t got a crumb
From the dinah-moe, dinah-moe, dinah-moe
From the dinah-moe humm

I got a spot that gets me hot
But you ain’t been to it
I got a spot that gets me hot
But you ain’t been to it
I got a spot that gets me hot
But you ain’t been to it
I got a spot that gets me hot
But you ain’t been to it
’cause I can’t get into it
Unless I get out of it
An’ I gotta get out of it
Before I get into it
’cause I never get into it
Unless I get out of it
An’ I gotta be out of it
To get myself into it

(she looked over at me with a glazed eye
And some bovine perspiration on her upper lip area
And she said...)

Just get me wasted
An’ you’re half-way there
’cause if my mind’s tore up
Then my body don’t care

I rubbed my chinny-chin-chin
An’ said my-my-my
What sort of thing
Might this lady get high upon?

I checked out her sister
Who was holdin’ the bet
An’ wondered what kind of trip
The young lady was on

The forty dollar bill didn’t matter no more
When her sister got nekkid an’ laid on the floor
She said dinah-moe might win the bet
But she could use a little ------- if I wasn’t done yet

I told her...
Just because the sun
Want a place in the sky
No reason to assume
I wouldn’t give her a try

So I pulled on her hair
Got her legs in the air
An’ asked if she had any cooties on there

(whaddya mean cooties! no cooties on me!)

She was buns-up kneelin’
Buns up!
I was wheelin’ an dealin’
Wheelin’ an’ dealin’ an ooooh!
She surrended to the feelin’
She sweetly surrendered
An’ she started in to squealin’

Dinah-moe watched from the edge of the bed
With her lips just a-twitchin’ an’ her face gone red
Some drool rollin’ down
From the edge of her chin
While she spied the condition
Her sister was in
She quivered ’n quaked
An’ clutched at herself
While her sister made a joke
’bout her mental health
’till dinah-moe finally
Did give in
But I told her
All she really needed
Was some discipline...

Kiss my aura...dora...
M-m-m...it’s real angora
Would y’all like some more-a?
Right here on the flora?
An’ how ’bout you, fauna?
Y’wanna?

Mmm...sound like y’might be chokin’ on somethin’

Did you say you want some more?
Well, here’s some more...

Mmm, sure...listen
D’you think I could interest you
In a pair of zircon-encrusted tweezers?

Mmm...tweezers!
Here, lemme sterilize ’em...
Gimme your lighter...

I couldn’t say where she’s coming’ from,
But I just met a lady named dinah-moe humm

She stroll on over, say look here, bum,
I got a forty dollar bill say you can’t make me cum
(y’jes can’t do it)

I whipped off her bloomers’n stiffened my thumb
An’ applied rotation on her sugar plum

I poked’n stroked till my wrist got numb
An’ you know I heard some dinah-moe humm,
Dinah-moe humm

Dinah-moe
Dinah-moe
Dinah-moe

Ronnie Milsap -- "Legend in My Time"

If heartaches brought fame
In love's crazy game
I'd be a legend in my time
If they gave gold statuettes
For tears and regrets
Id be a legend in my time

But they dont give awards
And theres no praise or fame
For a heart that's been broken
over love thats in vain

If loneliness meant world acclaim
Ev'ryone would know my name
I'd be a legend in my time

But they dont give awards
And theres no praise or fame
For a heart that's been broken
Over love thats in vain

If loneliness meant world acclaim
Then ev'ryone would know my name
I'd be a legend in my time
I'd be a legend in my time

AKUS - Bright Sunny South

From the bright sunny south to the war, I was sent,
E'er the days of my boyhood, I scarcely had spent.
From it's cool shady forests and deep flowing streams,
Ever fond in my mem'ry and sweet in my dreams.

Oh, my dear little sister, I still see her tears.
When I had to leave home in our tender years.
And my sweet gentle mother, so dear to my heart,
It grieved me sincerely when we had to part.

Said my kind-hearted father as he took my hand:
"As you go in defence of our dear native land,
"Son, be brave but show mercy whenever you can.
"Our hearts will be with you, 'til you 'turn again."

In my bag there's a bible to show me the way,
Through my twelfth year on earth and to Heaven some day.
I will shoulder my musket and brandish my sword,
In defence of this land and the word of the Lord.

Bestrafe Mich by Rammstein-Senhshuct

Bestrafe mich
bestrafe mich
Stroh wird Gold
und Gold wird Stein
deine Größe macht mich klein
du darfst mein Bestrafer sein

Der Herrgott nimmt
der Herrgott gibt

Bestrafe mich
bestrafe mich
du meinst ja
und ich denk nein
schließ mich ein in dein Gebet
bevor der Wind noch kälter weht

Deine Größe macht mich klein
du darfst mein Bestrafer sein
du darfst mein Bestrafer sein

Deine Größe macht mich klein
du darfst mein Bestrafer sein
deine Größe macht ihn klein
du wirst meine Strafe sein
Der Herrgott nimmt
der Herrgott gibt
doch gibt er nur dem
den er auch liebt
bestrafe mich

Translation ©2003 Jeremy Williams.

Punish me
punish me
straw becomes gold
and gold becomes stone
your size makes me small
you may be my punisher

The lord does take
the lord does give

Punish me
punish me
you mean yes
and I think no
include me in your prayers
before the wind blows even colder

Your size makes me small
you may be my punisher
you may be my punisher

Your size makes me small
you may be my punisher
your size makes him small
you will be my punishment
The lord does take
the lord does give
but does he give only to those
that he also loves
punish me

Seeman by Rammstein-Herzeleid

Komm in mein Boot
ein Sturm kommt auf
und es wird Nacht

Wo willst du hin
so ganz allein
treibst du davon

Wer hält deine Hand
wenn es dich
nach unten zieht

Wo willst du hin
so uferlos
die kalte See

Komm in mein Boot

Komm in mein Boot
die Sehnsucht wird
der Steuermann

Komm in mein Boot

die Zeit steht still
und mir ist kalt

Come in my boat
a storm is rising
and it is becoming night

Where do you want to go
so completely alone
you are drifting away

Who holds your hand
when it pulls
you under

Where do you want to go
so boundless
the cold sea

Come in my boat
the autumn wind holds
the sails taut

Now you are standing by the lantern
with tears in your face
the daylight falls on the side
the autumn wind sweeps the streets clear

Now you are standing by the lantern
you have tears in your face
the evening light chases away the shadows
time stands still and it becomes autumn

Come in my boat
the helmsman
feels longing

Come in my boat
the best seaman
was I

Now you are standing by the lantern
you have tears in your face
you take the fire from the candle
time stands still and it becomes autumn

They only spoke of your mother
only the night is so merciless
at the end I am left alone
time stands still
and I am cold

PJ Harvey :: The Whores Hustle and the Hustlers Whore

Speak to me of
Universal law
The whores hustle and the hustlers whore
All around me
People bleed
Speak to me
Your song of greed

Speak to me
Of your inner charm
Of how you'll keep me
Safe from harm
I don't think so
I don't see
Speak to me
Of your inner peace, ahh!

Little people
At the amusement park
City people
In the dark
Speak to us
Send us a sign
Just give us something
To keep us trying

And the whores hustle and the hustlers whore
Too many people are out of love
The whores hustle and the hustlers whore
The city's ripped right to the core

Speak to me
Of heroin and speed
Genocide and suicide
Of syphilis and greed

Speak to me
The language of love
The language of violence
The language of the heart

This isn't the first time
I lost my money your love
Heaven and earth don't
Ever mean enough

Speak to me
Of heroin and speed
Just gimme something
I can believe

The whores hustle and the hustlers whore
Too many people are out of love
The whores hustle and the hustlers whore
The city's ripped right to the core

Ohhhh, ohhhhh.....

"Forever Blue" by Chris Isaak

Nobody ever warns you, or tells you what to do.
She walks away, you're left to stay.
Alone forever blue.
The stars have all stopped shining, the sun just won't break through.
Each days the same, more clouds more rain.
You're left forever blue.
Forever blue 'cause you love her, but she dosen't love you.
You did your best, life did the rest.
You're left forever blue.
No reason left for living, still there's alot to do.
New tears to cry, old songs to sing.
And feel forever blue.
And be forever....Blue

another Patty Griffin song...she's awesome

"Moses" by Patty Griffin
Diamonds, roses, I need Moses
To cross this sea of loneliness,
part this red river of pain
I don't necessarily buy any key to the future or happiness
But I need a little place in the sun sometimes
or I think I will die

Everywhere is somewhere
And nowhere is near
Everybody got somebody
with their wine and their beer
So I'm just this tragic figure
in the corner over here
With an empty apartment
and a best friend who is queer

Everytime I see him he smiles
And he tells me how well he's walking these miles
But he never ever asks a single thing about me
If I die, he'd hear about it eventually
Diamonds, roses,
I need Moses
To cross this sea of loneliness,
Part this red river of pain

Everywhere is somewhere
And nowhere is near
Everybody got somebody
with their wine and their beer
So I'm just this tragic figure
in the corner over here
Go home to an empty apartment
and call a best friend who is a queer

Diamonds, roses,
I need Moses
to cross this sea of loneliness,
Part this red river of pain
to cross this sea of loneliness,
Part this red river of pain
to cross this sea of loneliness,
Part this red river of pain

Bad Religion -- Stranger Than Fiction

a febrile shocking violent smack
the children are hoping for a heart attack,
tonight the windows are watching,
the streets all conspire,
and the lamppost can't stop crying,
if I could fly high above the world,
would I see a bunch of living dots spell the world stupidity?,
or would I see hungry lover homicides,
loving brother suicides,
and olly olly oxenfrees,
who pickaside and hide
the world is scratching at my door,
my morning papers got the scores,
the human interest stories, and the obituary
cockroach naps and rattling traps,
how many devils can you fit upon a match head?,
caringosity killed the Kerouac cat,
sometimes truth is stranger than fiction
in my alley around the corner,
there's a wino with feathered shoulders,
and a spirit giving head for crack and he'll never want it back,
there's a little kid and his family eating crackers like thanksgiving
and a pack of wild desperados scornful of living
the worlds is scratching at my door . . .
cradle for a cat, Wolfe looks back,
how many angels can you fit upon a match?
I want to know why Hemingway cracked,
sometimes truth is stranger than fiction
life is the crummiest book I ever read,
there isn't a hook, just a lot of cheap shots,
pictures to shock and characters an amateur would never dream up.

hey guys the song called Pain by 3 days grace truly speaks to me, it helped me deal with heavy feelings i had for a girl makes you wanna push on in a relationship or an attempt at one

Pain, without love
Pain, I can't get enough
Pain, I like it rough
'Cause I'd rather feel pain than nothing at all

You're sick of feeling down
You're not the only one
I'll take you by the hand
And I'll show you a world that you can understand
This life is filled with hurt
When happiness doesn't work
Trust me and take my hand
When the lights go out you will understand

Pain, without love
Paint, I can't get enough
Pain, I like rough
'Cause I'd rather feel pain than nothing at all
Pain, without love
Pain, I can't get enough
Pain, I like rough
'Cause I'd rather feel pain than nothing at all

Anger and agony
Are better than misery
Trust me I've got a plan
When the lights go off you will understand

Pain, without love
Pain, I can't get enough
Pain, I like rough
'Cause I'd rather feel pain than nothing at all
Pain, without love
Pain, I can't get enough
Pain, I like rough
'Cause I'd rather feel pain than nothing
Rather feel pain

I know (I know I know I know I know)
That you're wounded
You know (You know you know you know you know)
That I'm here to save you
You know (You know you know you know you know)
I'm always here for you
I know (I know I know I know I know)
That you'll thank me later

Pain, without love
Pain, can't get enough
Pain, I like rough
'Cause I'd rather feel pain than nothing at all
Pain, without love
Pain, I can't get enough
Pain, I like rough
'Cause I'd rather feel pain than nothing at all
Pain, without love
Pain, I can't get enough
Pain, I like rough
'Cause I'd rather feel pain than nothing at all
Rather feel pain than nothing at all
Rather feel pain:)

Trapt - Lost Realist

********** life story right here I tell ya.

My independence is calling my name
A doubtful voice provides my faith
My independence only has a taste
An unsure choice I can't embrace
You'd have to carve me,
Carve me from stone
Right to the bone or
We'll end up alone
Playing the role
Of someone in control

Why do I rush to slow down
Why do I rush to slow down everything
Why do I rush to slow down
Why do I rush to slow down everything

Will the dice ever roll
When will I ever know
Will the plot ever twist
Or will I still resist
I've been playing the part of a lost realist

*That sums it up*

My indepednce is turning the page
Tomorrow comes we start to fade
My independence only complicates
It's not enough to meet half way

You'll have to carve me
Carve me from stone
Right to the bone
Or we'll end up alone

Playing the role
Of someone in control

Why do I rush to slow down
Why do I rush to slow down everything
Why do I rush to slow down
Why do I rush to slow down everything

Will the dice ever roll
When will I ever know
Will the plot ever twist
Or will I still resist
I've been playing the part of a lost realist

I only keep what I give away
I only keep what I give away

Why do I rush to slow down
Why do I rush to slow down everything
Why do I rush to slow down
Why do I rush to slow down
Everything

With the dice ever roll
When will I ever know
Will the plot ever twist
Or will I still resist
I've been playing the part of a lost realist

Why do I rush to slow down
Why do I rush to slow down everything
Why do I rush to slow down

"Nerdy" - Poison The Well

Why do your eyes paralyze me
What makes me feel this way
Just carry me away with silence and heartbeats
As rapid thinking about your embrace
and how it makes me feel
I just want to feel this way forever
Sleep on portraits painted as perfect as you
Why have I been given the chance to fly
When I'm not with you I feel lesser alone
I remember your face / imprinted on angels
Your voice as beautiful / as the sounds of waves
crashing against my heart
Time slows down when you look at me
I'm infatuated with this / infatuated with you
It's so hard for me to understand why
I hadn't found you before don't dull away
hold my hand

Sharks

by Morphine
written by: Mark Sandman

Sharks patrol these waters (x2)
Don't let your fingers dangle in the water
And don't you worry about the day glow orange life per server
It won't save you (x2)
Swim for the shores just as fast as your able
Swim like a mother fu**er swim
Fast as that seen ships to now
The ever glorious now the ever present now
Drenched in flower and deep-fat-fried
And cooled on paper towels and then devoured
You know I spent 15 years in a life raft
15 years in a life raft and now I got something to say
Stay in your life boats people (x2)
It's murder out there murder out there
Sharks patrol these waters
Sharks patrol these waters hey
Don't you worry about the dayglow orange life preserver
It won't save you (x2)
Swim for the shores just as fast as your able to swim

Heart a tact by kid dynamite

Crashing down on consensus. It's the vice that kills defenses. Piercing through sort of feeling. It only hurts if I let it take control of me. Won't let the world weigh me down. Cause I'm coming alive. What's the deal with life lessons? If you can't forget regret them. Taught to fold under pressure. Failure doesn't mean you have to die. Won't let the world weigh me down. Cause I'm coming alive. Just how many are there on my side. A calendar filled up with sleepless nights. Keeps time. Afraid of what it may have left behind. Who cares? I've thought about it all too many times. What's worse? Is that my self-esteem suffers a curse. That tries to kill me but I kill it first. I'm coming alive, alive through you. Today I found a friend in who I am. Who promises to be there 'till the end, of what? When it's over will it start again? Can't worry about it or life becomes too crowded. With panic. I'll panic and then I'll start to doubt it, it's not worth it. So **** it. Not gonna walk around it. I'll face it. I'll smash it. I'm not gonna lose again. I'm coming alive through you.

Hmm. For me it is the Entire Three Minute Warning by Liquid Tension Experiment (30 minutes long) Probably because the entire song was 100% Improvised, which is unbelieveable.

"highway patrolman" by Johnny Cash (I know Bruce Sprinstien did the orignal, but his version doesn't speak to me the way johnny's does)

My name is Joe Roberts I work for the State
I'm a sergeant out on Perenville barracks No 8
I've always done an honest job honest as I could
Got a brother named Frankie Frankie ain't no good
Ever since we were young kids it's been the same come down
I'd get a call on a short way Frankie's in trouble downtown
But if it was any other man I'd put him straight away
But sometimes when it's your brother you look the other way
Yeah me and Frankie laughin' and drinkin' nothin' feels better than blood on blood
Takin' turns dancin' with Maria
While the band played The Night Of The Johnstown Flood
I catch him when he's strayin' like any brother should
Man turns his back on his family he ain't no good
Well Frankie went into the army back in 1965
I got a farm deferment settled down took Maria for my wife
But them wheat prices kept on droppin' till it was like we's gettin' robbed
Frankie came home in '68 and me I took this job
Yeah me and Frankie laughin' and drinkin' nothin' feels better than blood on blood
Takin' turns dancin' with Maria
While the band played The Night Of The Johnstown Flood
I catch him when he's strayin' teach him how to walk that line
Man turns his back on his family ain't no friend of mine
The night was like any other I got a call bout the quarter of nine
There was trouble at a roadhouse out on the Michigan line
There was a kid on the floor lookin' bad bleedin' hard from his head
There was a girl cryin' at a table it was Frankie she said
I ran out and I jumped in my car then I hit the lights
I must have done about a hundred and ten to Michigan County that night
It was down by the crossroads out bout willow bank
Seen the buick with Ohio plates behind the wheel was Frank
Well I chased him through them county roads
Till the sign said Canadian border five miles from here
Pulled over to the south out the highway watched his taillights disappeared
Yeah me and Frankie laughin' and drinkin' nothin' feels better than blood on blood
Takin' turns dancin' with Maria
While the band played The Night Of The Johnstown Flood
I catch him when he's strayin' like any brother should
Man turns his back on his family ain't no good

The story of me and a girl want so badly by Merle Haggard "always wanting you"

Always wanting you, but never having you,
Makes it hard to face tomorrow 'cause I
Know I'll be wanting you again.
Always loving you, but never touching you,
Sometimes hurts me almost more than I can stand.

I'd been better off if I'd turned away and never
Looked at you the second time.
'Cause I really had my life all together till your eyes meet mine.

And there I say a yearning and a feeling 'cross
The room that you felt for me.
Wish I'd had a way of knowing that the things we had in
Mind could never be.

Always wanting you, but never having you,
Makes it hard to face tomorrow 'cause I
Know I'll be wanting you again.
Always loving you, but never touching you,
Sometimes hurts me almost more than I can stand.

Bravado

Lyrics by Neal Peart, music by Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee

If we burn our wings
Flying too close to the sun
If the moment of glory
Is over before its begun
If the dream is won --
Though everything is lost
We will pay the price,
But we will not count the cost

When the dust has cleared
And victory denied
A summit too lofty
River a little too wide
If we keep our pride --
Though paradise is lost
We will pay the price,
But we will not count the cost

And if the music stops
Theres only the sound of the rain
All the hope and glory
All the sacrifice in vain
[and] if love remains
Though everything is lost
We will pay the price,
But we will not count the cost

Wow, my music taste has changed a lot in two years...

Elliott Smith's Walts #1:

"Everytime the day darkens down and goes away
Pictures open in my head of me and you
Silent and cliché
All the things we did and didn't say
Covered up by what we did and didn't do
Going through every out i used to cope
To make the repetition stop
What was i supposed to say?
Now i never leave my zone
We're both alone
I'm going home
I wish i'd never seen your face"

Short and to the point... and Elliott's voice is haunting in the song... I dig it.

The Outsiders / R.E.M.

You took me to the restaurant where we first met
You knocked a future shock crowbar upside my head
I got caught with the stop of the tick-tock, tick-tock clock
When you told me what you knew

Lost in the moment
The day that the music stopped
And I do remember you

Drawing patterns with a cork on the tablecloth
Promising volcanic change of plot
Where will this lead us - I'm scared of the storm
The outsiders are gathering, a new day is born

I tried to tell you I am not afraid
You looked up and saw it all across my face
So am I with you or am I against
I don't think it's that easy - we're lost in regret

Now I'm trying to remember
The feeling when the music stopped
When you told me what you knew

Lost in the moment
The day that the music stopped
And I do remember you

Drawing patterns with a cork on the tablecloth
Promising volcanic change of plot
Where does this leave us - I'm scared of the storm
The outsiders are gathering, a new day is born

Drawing patterns with a cork on the tablecloth
Promising volcanic change of plot
Where does this leave us - I'm scared of the storm
The outsiders are gathering, a new day is born

The outsiders are gathering, a new day is born
The outsiders are gathering

A man walks away when every muscle says to stay
How many yesterdays - they each weigh heavy
Who says what changes may come?
Who says what we call home?
I know you see right through me, my luminescence fades
The dusk provides an antidote, I am not afraid
I've been a million times in my mind
This is really just a technicality, frailty, reality

Uh, it's time to breathe, time to believe
Let it go and run towards the sea
They don't teach that, they don't know what you mean
They don't understand, they don't know what you mean
They don't get it, I wanna scream
I wanna breathe again, I wanna dream
I wanna float a quote from Martin Luther King
I am not afraid
I am not afraid
I am not afraid

I am not afraid
I am not afraid
I am not afraid
I am not afraid

This is my favorite song of all time. I am not really sure why but it is. I have had the chance to see U2 sing this song live several times and everytime I hear it live it sends shivers down my spine. The song is really about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. But it's about something different to me. I relate to it on a different level. It's s simple song with simple lyrics but the music is amazing in my opinion.

"Pride (In The Name Of Love)" By U2

One man come in the name of love
One man come and go
One man come, he to justify
One man to overthrow

In the name of love
What more in the name of love
In the name of love
What more in the name of love

One man caught on a barbed wire fence
One man he resist
One man washed on an empty beach.
One man betrayed with a kiss

In the name of love
What more in the name of love
In the name of love
What more in the name of love

(nobody like you...)

Early morning, April 4
Shot rings out in the Memphis sky
Free at last, they took your life
They could not take your pride

In the name of love
What more in the name of love
In the name of love
What more in the name of love
In the name of love
What more in the name of love...

Helena by Nickel Creek hits way too close to home as of late. Far too much like recent events in my life. You have to note the point of view of the storyteller. and the fact that he is a jackass.:(

"Helena"

Helena, don't walk away
Before you give me back my heart
If it were mine, it would be yours to take
I'm sorry I let down my guard, oh Helena

You looked so sweet
I should have seen
While I was playing for fun
You were playing for keeps

You win, I lose, is there some way
You can leave me in your debt
So my girl and I can live to die another day
On that day I won't forget you, Helena

You look so sweet waiting for me
While I wait for her to give me any reason to leave
Don't waste your pretty sympathy
She's gonna be just fine

And Helena, so will we
So will everything in time, mmm

Helena, don't walk away
Did you hear one word I said
Oh well, I never really liked her anyway
And I forgot her, I'll forget you, Helena

You're not that sweet
And neither is she
Go ahead and tell her anything

You walk, Helena
Cause guys like me never sleep alone at night
I don't need your sympathy
Cause I'll always be just fine

Yeah, I'll always be just fine
Yeah, I'll always be just fine

"Sewn" by The Feeling. Here's to free iTMS downloads!

THE FEELING - SEWN

Give me the song and ill sing it like I mean it
Give me the words and ill say them like I mean it

Cuase you got my heart in a headlock
You stopped the blood and made my head soft
And God knows
You got me sewn

Nah nah nah etc...

Danny boy, don’t be afraid, to shake that ass, and misbehave
Danny boy, I now you got time, but what are you waiting for,
Anyway the dust may just blow away, if you wait for a windy day

But you may find the chance has passed you by;

I can't do the walk
I can't do the talk
I can't be your friend
Unless I pretend

So give me the song and i'll sing it like I mean it
So give me the words and i'll say them like I mean it

Cause you got my heart in a headlock
You stopped the blood and made my head soft
And God knows
You've got me sewn

Nah nah nah etc...

Danny boy, don’t be a fool
Take upon to break the rule
Danny boy your lookin so low
You lookin like the dead grown old
Anyway the blues may just wash away, if you wait for a rainy day
But you may find, the chance had passed you by

I cant do the walk
I cant do the talk
I cant be your friend
Unless I pretend

So give me the song and ill sing it like I mean it
Give me the words and ill say them like I mean it

Cause you got my heart in a headlock
You stopped the blood and made my head soft
You've got my heart in a headlock
You stopped the blood and made my head soft
made my head soft
made my head soft
made my head soft
made my head soft
Yeah, yeah, yeah

Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon - Eclipse

All that you touch
All that you see
All that you taste
All you feel.
All that you love
All that you hate
All you distrust
All you save.
All that you give
All that you deal
All that you buy,
beg, borrow or steal.
All you create
All you destroy
All that you do
All that you say.
All that you eat
And everyone you meet
All that you slight
And everyone you fight.
All that is now
All that is gone
All that's to come
and everything under the sun is in tune
but the sun is eclipsed by the moon.

"There is no dark side of the moon really. Matter of fact it's all dark."

Precious and fragile things
Need special handling
My God, what have we done to you?
We always tried to share
The tenderest of care
Now look what we have put you through

Things get damaged
Things get brokenI thought we'd manage
But words left unspoken
Left us so brittle
There was so little left to give

Angels with silver wings
Shouldn't know suffering
I wish I could take the pain for you
If God has a master plan
That only He understands
I hope it's your eyes He's seeing through

Things get damaged
Things get broken
I thought we'd manage
But words left unspoken
Left us so brittle
There was so little left to give

I pray you learn to trust
Have faith in both of us
And keep room in your hearts for two

Things get damaged
Things get broken
I thought we'd manage
But words left unspoken
Left us so brittle
There was so little left to give

Everybody Hurts by R.E.M.
When the day is long and the night, the night is yours alone,
When youre sure youve had enough of this life, well hang on.
Dont let yourself go, everybody cries and everybody hurts sometimes.

Sometimes everything is wrong. now its time to sing along.
When your day is night alone, (hold on, hold on)
If you feel like letting go, (hold on)
When you think youve had too much of this life, well hang on.

Everybody hurts. take comfort in your friends.
Everybody hurts. dont throw your hand. oh, no. dont throw your hand.
If you feel like youre alone, no, no, no, you are not alone

If youre on your own in this life, the days and nights are long,
When you think youve had too much of this life to hang on.

Well, everybody hurts sometimes,
Everybody cries. and everybody hurts sometimes.
And everybody hurts sometimes. so, hold on, hold on.
Hold on, hold on. hold on, hold on. hold on, hold on.
(everybody hurts. you are not alone.)

Please by U2
So you never knew love... until you crossed the line of grace
And you never felt wanted... 'til you'd someone slap your face
So you never felt alive... until you'd almost wasted away

You had to win, you couldn't just pass
The smartest ass, at the top of the class
Your flying colors, your family tree
And all your lessons in history

Please... please... please...
Get up off your knees
Please... please... please...
Please...

(One, two, three, four)

So you never knew... how low you'd stoop to make that call
And you never knew... what was on the ground until they made you crawl
So you never knew... that the heaven you keep, you stole

Your catholic blues, your convent shoes
Your stick on tattoos now they're making the news
Your holy war, your northern star
Your sermon on the mount from the boot of your car

Please... please... please...
Get up off your knees
Please-yeah... please... please...
Leave me out of this please

So love is hard and love is tough
But love is not what you're thinking of

September, streets capsizing
Spilling over down the drains
Shards of glass, splinters like rain
But you could only feel your own pain

October, talk getting nowhere
November... December... remember
Are we just starting again?

Please... please... please...
Get up off your knee there
Please... please... please...
Please...

So love is big, is bigger than us
But love is not what you're thinking of

It's what lovers deal
It's what lovers steal
You know I've found it hard to receive

Cause you my love I could never believe.

At the moment Tainted Love by Marilyn Manson

Sometimes I feel I've got to
Run away I've got to
Get away
From the pain you drive in the heart of me
The love we share
Seems to go nowhere
And I've lost my light
For I toss and turn I can't sleep at night

Once I ran to you (I ran)
Now I run from you
This tainted love you've given
I'll give you all a boy could give you
Take my tears and that's not nearly all
Tainted love... oh
Tainted love

Now I know I've got to
Run away I've got to
Get away
You don't really want any more from me
To make things right
Need someone to hold you tight
And you'll think love is to pray
But I'm sorry I don't pray that way

Once I ran to you (I ran)
Now I run from you
This tainted love you've given
I'll give you all a boy could give you
Take my tears and that's not nearly all
Tainted love... oh
Tainted love

Don't touch me please
I cannot stand the way you tease
I love you though you hurt me so
Now I'm going to pack my things and go

Touch me baby, tainted love (x4)

Once I ran to you (I ran)
Now I run from you
This tainted love you've given
I'll give you all a boy could give you
Take my tears and that's not nearly all
Tainted love... oh
Tainted love
tainted love(x4)

Frost*- Milliontown

One underground
My worm cathedral
All earthy for your infestation
These little workers build me an empire
Your loyalty I burrowed out mined by erosion
My little kingdom ready for me now
These careful times
The residue of past digestion
Get what you can now
Good staff are hard to find
My bitter name
The full effect of time and tension
You utter duty and fight to stay the same

Abracadaver
With a cross upon the wall
I was blinded by it all
Now the faces left behind
These are no friends of mine
When your fears are cast aside
Out across the great divide
Rage is part of your design
But I won't play this time
Hero waiting by the line
Here on my own
All alone
On my own
All alone

The only surivors
Why do you run and hide?
Here inside the lighthouse
You lose the way
Ghost of yesterday
And before you know
You'll fade away
You and I were will live and die
We are not the only survivors
You and me we're too blind to see
We are not the only survivors
Games that you people play
Here inside the lighthouse
You'll have to stay
Time she ran away
Slipping through our fingers
Time running out

Core
I number you
Carving circles in your soul
I pull you through
As I do
Cut your family ties
Before your eyes
Too much, too soon
Early warning
Saved by the day
Carried away, you're still falling
Take me over
Harder, colder
I want you to be

The chosen few
Awake again and I'm alone
The thoughts I have are not my own
No ones knows I'm here
The faces move around the room
Their voices cut into the gloom
But they're not listening
What's that shadow moving?
Is that a life in here?
Won't someone please come and free me
Here, dead but still alive in here
Help me come alive
In here
There's a lot I've got to do
It was not your place to choose
And now
I lose

Two underground
My worm cathedral
Diseased by all the interention
I watch them turning
Into things they might have been
These fatal days
Corrupted by our own perfection
You're looking to me
But there's nothing more to say

Dream Theater - In The Presence of Enemies, Pt. 1

I. Prelude

II. Ressurection
I saw a white light
Shining there before me
And walking to it
I waited for the end
A final vision
Promising salvation
A resurrection
For a fallen man

Do I still wait for your god?
And the symbol of your faith

I can free you from this hell and misery
You should never be ashamed my son
I can give you power beyond anything
Trust me you will be the chosen one

I was forgotten
A body scorned and broken
My soul rejected
Tainted by his blood

Beyond redemption
A sinner not worth saving
Forever taken
From the one I loved

Do you still wait for your god?
And the symbol of my faith

I can lead you down the path and back to life
All I ask is that you worship me
I can help you seek revenge and save yourself
Give you life for all eternity

Servants of the fallen
fight to pave the way
For their savior's calling
On this wicked day

Through a veil of madness
With a vicious blade
One man rises up
Standing in their way

Redemption for humanity

ASIA - Free

Look into the distance, you're living in a cage
A fire burns inside you, that fuels all the rage
You're thinking of the outside, and dream of the past
The gates to freedom lie within your grasp
They're changing the system, rewriting the laws
Renaming religion, reshaping your cause
You always be lonely, walking with fools
The shadows in the doorways make the rules

Because you're free, this time
Don't be scared of who you are
Free, to find
There's no hiding in the dark

A new day is dawning, a New Age begun
Nobody told you which way you should run
Wait for the thunder, break from the shell
Is this the gate to freedom from this Hell?

Because you're free, this time
Don't be scared of who you are
Free, to find
There's no hiding in the dark
Free, this time
You can learn to live again
Free, to find
There is shelter from the rain
Free

They're razing the fences in the pastures of doom
The fields of our heroes, the land won by few
The call of a New World, dream to transcend
Now it's time to fight and start again

Because you're free, this time
Don't be scared of who you are
Free, to find
There's no hiding in the dark
Because you're free, this time
You can learn to live again
Free, to find
There is shelter from the rain

Genesis - Ripples

Blue girls come in every size
Some are wise and some otherwise,
They got pretty blue eyes.
For an hour a man may change
For an hour her face looks strange -
Looks strange, looks strange.

Marching to the promised land
Where the honey flows and takes you by the hand,
Pulls you down on your knees,
While you're down a pool appears.
The face in the water looks up,
And she shakes her head as if to say
That its the last time you'll look like today.

Sail away, away
Ripples never come back.
Gone to the other side.
Sail away, away.

The face that launched a thousand ships
Is sinking fast, that happens you know,
The water gets below.
Seems not very long ago
Lovelier she was than any that I know.

Angels never know its time
To close the book and gracefully decline,
The song has found a tale.
My, what a jealous pool is she.
The face in the water looks up
She shakes her head as if to say
That the blue girls have all gone away.

Sail away, away
Ripples never come back.
They've gone to the other side.
Look into the pool,
Ripples never come back,
Dive to the bottom and go to the top
To see where they have gone
Oh, they've gone to the other side...

Sail away, away
Ripples never come back.
Gone to the other side.
Look into the pool,
The ripples never come back, come back,
Dive to the bottom and go to the top
To see where they have gone
They've gone to the other side
Ripples never come back
Sail away, away...

It's a God awful small affair
To the girl with the mousey hair,
But her mummy is yelling, "No!"
And her daddy has told her to go,
But her friend is no where to be seen.
Now she walks through her sunken dream
To the seats with the clearest view
And she's hooked to the silver screen,
But the film is sadd'ning bore
For she's lived it ten times or more.
She could spit in the eyes of fools
As they ask her to focus on

Sailors
Fighting in the dance hall.
Oh man!
Look at those cavemen go.
It's the freakiest show.
Take a look at the lawman
Beating up the wrong guy.
Oh man!
Wonder if he'll ever know
He's in the best selling show.
Is there life on Mars?

It's on America's tortured brow
That Mickey Mouse has grown up a cow.
Now the workers have struck for fame
'Cause Lennon's on sale again.
See the mice in their million hordes
From Ibeza to the Norfolk Broads.
Rule Britannia is out of bounds
To my mother, my dog, and clowns,
But the film is a sadd'ning bore
'Cause I wrote it ten times or more.
It's about to be writ again
As I ask you to focus on

Sailors
Fighting in the dance hall.
Oh man!
Look at those cavemen go.
It's the freakiest show.
Take a look at the lawman
Beating up the wrong guy.
Oh man!
Wonder if he'll ever know
He's in the best selling show.
Is there life on Mars?

Probably my favourite trance track. You have to listen to it to appreciate the lyrics. Go seek it out !

Embracing the goddess energy within yourselves..
will bring all of you to a new understanding and value of life.
A vision that inspires you to live and love on planet earth.
Like a priceless jewel..
buried in dark layers of soil and stone.
Earth radiates her brilliant beauty..
into the caverns of space and time.
Perhaps your are aware of those who watch over your home.
And experience it as a place to visit and play with reality.
You are becoming aware of yourself as a game master.
Imagine earth restored to her regal beauty.
Stately trees seem to brush the deep blue sky.
Clouds billow to form majestic peaks.
The songs of birds fill the air..
creating symphony upon symphony..
The goddess is calling for..
and honoring..
of what she allows to be created..
from the core-mystery of the blood.
Those who own her planet are learning about love.

Words by Robert Hunter; music by Jerry Garcia

Standing on the moon
I got no cobweb on my shoe
Standing on the moon
I'm feeling so alone and blue
I see the Gulf of Mexico
As tiny as a tear
The coast of California
Must be somewhere over here - over here

Standing on the moon
I see the battle rage below
Standing on the moon
I see the soldiers come and go
There's a metal flag beside me
Someone planted long ago
Old Glory standing stiffly
Crimson, white and indigo - indigo

I see all of Southeast Asia
I can see El Salvador
I hear the cries of children
And the other songs of war
It's like a mighty melody
That rings down from the sky
Standing here upon the moon
I watch it all roll by - all roll by

Standing on the moon
With nothing else to do
A lovely view of heaven
But I'd rather be with you

Standing on the moon
I see a shadow on the sun
Standing on the moon
The stars go fading one by one
I hear a cry of victory
And another of defeat
a scrap of age-old lullaby
Down some forgotten street

Standing on the moon
Where talk is cheap and vision true
Standing on the moon
But I would rather be with you
Somewhere in San Francisco
On a back porch in July
Just looking up to heaven
At this crescent in the sky

Standing on the moon
With nothing left to do
A lovely view of heaven
But I'd rather be with you - be with you

dave melillo - knights of the island counter
i just found this song on a sampler i got with a cd a long time ago, its a good song

"Knights Of The Island Counter"

So we sit at this table with our hands in our laps
And we have a few drinks and we share a few laughs
But now those days have past and they're not coming back
It's a shame cause that's all that I had

And we'll sing out loud for hours
Until the morning that we know we can't avoid
These nights are notable and priceless
I swear that every word I say, I mean until my dying day
It's a shame when I wake I can't recall a thing

So keep things quiet until the rest of the street falls asleep
Then we'll break out and show everyone just what were made of
So young, lets abuse our health and have a little fun
I'll drink to that, let's drink to that

I've got some problems but we've got ten dollars
That's enough to get us wasted before the night is over
These past five days I've been completely sober
But tonight I'm getting ripped wide open

I know this thread is old, but it might be a better idea to pick a couple of lines from the song in question, and tell us more about how that relates to you. Since I don't know any of you guys and girls, I have no idea how the song affects you, or why it means something.

PLUS, posting entire lyrics to a song, which no one is going to read (tell me, how many people even read one entire post containing just the lyrics?), without any explanation or thought, borders on spam...in my opinion.

Smashing idea, tobefirst! I'll go first...

There are a ton of songs that "speak" to me, but one of the most profound is The Grudge by Tool, from the Lateralus album. I was still in junior high (middle school) and had a lot of anger when I first heard this song. Most of my frustrations were from bullying, loneliness and family issues, and I found myself holding deep grudges against anyone who crossed me.

Wear the grudge like a crown of negativity.
...
Desperate to control all and everything.
...
Clutch it like a cornerstone. Otherwise it all comes down.
Justify denials and grip 'em to the lonesome end.
...
Terrified of being wrong. Ultimatum prison cell.

I guess the song really just kind of snapped me back to reality and made me realise how ridiculous grudges are. The line "Unable to forgive. And we're sinking deeper." correlated to exactly how I felt about life, so it really hit me hard.

The song culminates with the chanting and gradual building of "Let go", accompanied with massive guitar riffs and a hypnotic drumbeat. Fabulous way of driving the point home :o

Such Great Heights by The Postal Service

I am thinking it's a sign that the freckles
In our eyes are mirror images and when
We kiss they're perfectly aligned
And I have to speculate that God himself
Did make us into corresponding shapes like
Puzzle pieces from the clay
True, it may seem like a stretch, but
Its thoughts like this that catch my troubled
Head when you're away when I am missing you to death
When you are out there on the road for
Several weeks of shows and when you scan
The radio, I hope this song will guide you home

They will see us waving from such great
Heights, 'come down now,' they'll say
But everything looks perfect from far away,
'come down now,' but we'll stay...

I tried my best to leave this all on your
Machine but the persistent beat it sounded
Thin upon listening
That frankly will not fly. you will hear
The shrillest highs and lowest lows with
The windows down when this is guiding you home

Marching Bands of Manhattan by Death Cab For Cutie

If I could open my arms
And span the length of the isle of Manhattan,
I'd bring it to where you are
Making a lake of the East River and Hudson
If I could open my mouth
Wide enough for a marching band to march out
They would make your name sing
And bend through alleys and bounce off all the buildings.

I wish we could open our eyes
To see in all directions at the same time
Oh what a beautiful view
If you were never aware of what was around you
And it is true what you said
That I live like a hermit in my own head
But when the sun shines again
I'll pull the curtains and blinds to let the light in.

Sorrow drips into your heart through a pinhole
Just like a faucet that leaks and there is comfort in the sound
But while you debate half empty or half full
It slowly rises, your love is gonna drown [4x]

Your love is gonna drown [4x]
Your love is gonna...

Ben Gibbard is a songwriting god. I saw him last month at an all acoustic show, and was amazed. Until that time, I never really thought of him as a tangible person... more of a untouchable music making entity. But he is real. I promise.

Nine Inch Nails - And all that could have been

Breeze still carries the sound
Maybe I'll disappear
Tracks will fade in the snow
You won't find me here

Ice is starting to form
Ending what had begun
I am locked in my head
With what I've done
I know you tried to rescue me
Didn't let anyone get in
Left with a trace of all that was
And all that could have been

Please
Take this
And run far away
Far away from me
I am
Tainted
The two of us
Were never meant to be
All these
Pieces
And promises and left behinds
If only I could see
In my
Nothing
You meant everything
Everything to me
Gone fading everything
And all that could have been

Please
Take this
And run far away
Far as you can see
I am
Tainted
And happiness and peace of mind
Were never meant for me
All these
Pieces
And promises and left behinds
If only I could see
In my
Nothing
You meant everything
Everything to me

hmm... @ the moment (ironically enough) it is pink floyd's "meddle (http://www.pink-floyd-lyrics.com/html/echoes-meddle-lyrics.html)"

"strangers passing in the street
by chance two separate glances meet
and i am you and what i see is me.
and do i take you by the hand
and lead you through the land
and help me understand
the best i can."

1. Pretty much any Dylan lyrics.

2. Turn, Turn, Turn.

To everything (turn, turn, turn)
There is a season (turn, turn, turn)
And a time for every purpose, under heaven

A time to be born, a time to die
A time to plant, a time to reap
A time to kill, a time to heal
A time to laugh, a time to weep

The older I get, the more I think that understanding this concept is a key to happiness. Yes, I realize that most of the lyrics are ironic, and that they are pretty much stolen from Ecclesiastes.

right now its Shut Your Eyes- Snow Patrol

Shut your eyes and think of somewhere
Somewhere cold and caked in snow
By the fire we break the quiet
Learn to wear each other well

And when the worrying starts to hurt
and the world feels like graves of dirt
Just close your eyes until
you can imagine this place, yeah, our secret space at will

Shut your eyes, I spin the big chair
And you'll feel dizzy, light, and free

And falling gently on the cushion
You can come and sing to me

And when the worrying starts to hurt
and the world feels like graves of dirt
Just close your eyes until
you can imagine this place, yeah, our secret space at will

Let us forget your existence
The day met, I will forget
On the other side of vacant life
Faces pass through
And we never saw what we saw
Ever again
The meters are too slow to know
To know
Our final thoughts
How far they got
And the simple things that we erase
With names that take their place
And we never saw what we saw
Ever again
Some things are so dangerous
Moments unexplained to us
To finally become aware
Everything you've ever seen is gone

Some things are so dangerous
Moments unexplained to us
To finally become aware
Everything you've ever seen is
Some things are so dangerous
Moments unexplained to us
To finally become aware
The most beautiful things you've ever seen
Will be gone...

I personally like having all of the lyrics in the post so I don't have to go look them up. Putting personal thoughts is fine too, but I will want the words to reach me as well.

Life Ain't Always Beautiful - Gary Allan

Life ain't always beautiful
Sometimes it's just plain hard
Life can knock you down, it can break your heart

Life ain't always beautiful
You think you're on your way
And it's just a dead end road at the end of the day

But the struggle makes you stronger
And the changes make you wise
And happiness has it's own way of takin' it sweet time

[chorus]
No, life ain't always beautiful
Tears will fall sometimes
Life ain't always beautiful
But it's a beautiful ride

Life ain't always beautiful
Some days I miss your smile
I get tired of walkin' all these lonely miles

And I wish for just one minute
I could see your pretty face
Guess I can dream, but life don't work that way

But the struggles makes me stronger
And the changes make me wise
And happiness has it's own way of takin' its sweet time

No, life ain't always beautiful
But I know I'll be fine
Hey, life ain't always beautiful
But its a beautiful ride
What a beautiful ride

Like We Never Loved At All - Faith Hill and Tim McGraw

You never looked so good
As you did last night
Underneath the city lights
There walking with your friend
Laughing at the moon
I swear you looked right through me
But I'm still living with your goodbye
And you're just going on with your life

[Chorus:]
How can you just walk on by
Without one tear in your eye?
Don't you have the slightest feelings left for me?
Maybe that's just your way
Of dealing with the pain
Forgetting everything between our rise and fall
Like we never loved at all

You, I hear you're doing fine
Seems like you're doing well
As far as I can tell
Time is leaving us behind
Another week has passed
And still I haven't laughed yet
So tell me what your secret is?
To letting go, letting go like you did, like you did

[Chorus]

Did you forget the magic?
Did you forget the passion?
Did you ever miss me
Ever long to kiss me?

Maybe that's just your way
Of dealing with the pain
Forgetting everything between our rise and fall
Like we never loved at all

Going Inside- John Frusciante

You don't throw your life away
Going inside
You get to know who's watching you
And who besides you resides

In your body
Where you're slow
Where you go doesn't matter
Cuz there will come a time
When time goes out the window

And you'll learn to drive out of focus
I'm you
And if anything unfolds
It's supposed to
Ooh

You don't throw your time away sitting still
I'm in a chain of memories
It's my will
And I had to consult some figures of the past
And I know someone after me
Will go right back

I'm not telling a view
I've got this night to unglue
I moved this fight away
By doing things there's no reason to do
Ooh
