Really? FTA: "In a twist of market dynamics, the demand for QWERTY phones is mainly a North American phenomenon, said Ross Rubin, an analyst at NPD."

and still, now that mechanical typewriters are becoming a dim and distant memory, we are still stuck with QWERTY?

Dvorak must be turning in his grave!

I have thought about that....the purpose of the QWERTY keyboard was to keep the old manual typewriters from jamming when adjacent keys were used. A Dvorak keyboard makes massive sense if you are typing at a more traditional computer keyboard, but I am now finding the original purpose of the QWERTY keyboard renewed with the iPhone's touch keyboard- it actually makes using the the touch keyboard easier by separating the "finger strokes."

funny part is after a short time after qwerty was used it was shown typing speed did not changed. Now it been around for so long it near impossible to impossible to change over to a new format because QWERTY been around for nearly a 100+ years.

Also QWERTY was made to speed up typing not slow it down.
