In celebration of A2DP being added to 3.0, I dedicate this thread to finding the best stereo bluetooth headset for the iPhone. So let's scour the net, take a chance on some headsets, and share our joys and pains with each other until we find the best one. If you've used a stereo BT headset with 3.0, please answer the following 10 questions for us:
What is the brand and model?
Do the skip forward/back buttons work with the iPhone?
What about the play/pause button?
What about the volume controls?
Rate the sound quality on a scale of 1-10
Rate the bass on a scale of 1-10
Does it have a microphone? If so, how's the sound quality for the other person?
Is there anything particularly annoying about it? (Bad battery life, bad range, difficult to pair, ugly, uses a dongle, cheap feeling, etc.)
How much does it generally cost?
If possible, please provide a link to a good place to buy them.
As people find good models, I'll post them here in the OP so everyone knows!

-Motorola S9
-Nope
-Yes
-Volume control is seperate from the phones so yes.
-7
-5
-Yes. Volume is very low because it has no arm extension for the mic. You have to kinda yell.
-Nothing really annoying aside from the mic. Nice pair comfort and build quality wise. Odd considering its a motorola product.:p
-I paid 100. Probably got ripped off.
-I got them at best buy but I don't like to support them. It seems there becoming an only option(without waiting for them to arrive by delivery).:(
My stereo Bluetooth worked since B2 but the play/pause didn't work. But in B3 it does.

First let me say...I finally recieved my Motorla S9 headphone today from an ebay auction. I was geeking out all day long showing off...COOL. Cool. kewl.
1.What is the brand and model? Motorala S9
2.Do the skip forward/back buttons work with the iPhone? I don't think so.
3.What about the play/pause button? Negative
4.What about the volume controls? On the head set. Volume does not go up or down when adjusting on the phone.
5.Rate the sound quality on a scale of 1-10 - pleasantly suprised 6 or 7 (set on loudness in iphone config)
6.Rate the bass on a scale of 1-10 6
7.Does it have a microphone? If so, how's the sound quality for the other person? Seemed ok. I don't use blue tooth for talking on the phone so I'm not a good judge.
8.Is there anything particularly annoying about it? (Bad battery life, bad range, difficult to pair, ugly, uses a dongle, cheap feeling, etc.) - I'm worried that if I sweat on these things at the gym they will stop working. This is a big deal with headsets of this kind.
9.How much does it generally cost? $40
10.If possible, please provide a link to a good place to buy them. I found them on ebay. There were a lot available. I expect demaned to go waaay up.
Did I mention this is cool! If there was one thing that was going to destroy my first iPhone was catching the wire on somthing while doing something quick...
Cheers.

To be quite honest this is not a mainstream market and manufacturers do not have a lot of data on what people like when choosing a2dp headsets. What I can tell you is that it has to be something small, the ability to choose between 1 or 2 earbuds and I think I found it.
Jabra BT 8040

But to answer your question, months and months away from actually benefiting from it I would say the Jabra is the way to go at this point. Motorola has never been awesome for me ... personal opinion derived from personal use.

I have three of these. I swap them out during the day as the batteries go. AVRCP functions are non-existent, though. Quite comfy and it stays put. I hope you didn't pay more than $30 for it.

1. Sony DR-BT22
2. No
3. Yes
4. Headset has its own volume control, it doesn't alter the volume on the phone itself.
5. Sounds as good as your average pair of wired headphones.. so I'd say 7/10.. they sound far better than best buy's insignia BT headset.
6. These are over the ear style, so I'd rate the bass around 4.. you can hear some decent thump, but they don't have the bass level that in-ear phones can have.
7. Yes, haven't heard any complaints
8. The headphones are collapsible, so they feel a little flimsy until you put them on, they are very light and comfortable, though. No dongle, no pairing problems, range is good right around 30 ft, depending on the number of walls, battery life is ~12 hrs.
9. Average price is around $80-90
10. Tigerdirect has them for $29.99 + shipping (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4363656&csid=ITD&body=REVIEWS)
I feel like these were a real bargain at $30.

Let me just say that the MOTOROKR S9 series hurts like hell. The sound was good, but the fit was terrible on my head.
I traded those out for some Sony Ericsson HBH-IS800 that fit much better.
1) Sony Ericsson HBH-IS800
2) These have no forward/back controls on the headset.
3) The play/pause button does work. (It only has a single button.)
4) Software volume control on the iPhone doesn't seem to be implemented yet. There are no volume controls on the headset itself.
5) 8, they compare well to my Bose In Ear headphones.
6) 8.
7) It sounds okay considering I wear the wire behind my head which puts the microphone in a less optimal position.
8) Incomplete iPhone software prevents me from using them with my phone for now. They work quite well with my Macs for now though.
9) I got these for $100, but they'll normally run $140 - 199

You realize I am just reserving the second post in the thread just case I run out of room in the OP to list the best headsets we find right? Just thinking ahead here. :)
I'll list one of my own:
Model: Kensington K33436US
Skip buttons: No
Play/Pause: Yes
Volume: Yes
Sound: 9
Bass: 8
Mic: Yes (haven't tested it yet)
Bad: It can be overcharged and broken, so I hear.
Cost: ~$50

Overall I really like this headset, the ear buds are so comfortable (I have really small ears) and they are very secure. The sound is really good.
1. Sony Ericsson HBH-DS980
2. The skip buttons do not work
3. Play/pause works
4. Volume works
5. Sound - 8
6. Bass - 7
7. Mic - 7
8. You have to pair it each time (enter in pin #), has a
dongle but it's light.
9. Paid $100, ranges from $100-150
10. Bought mine at Frys in store

I really wish Jawbone would get into the game with a stereo headset. I guess it would have to be a wired streetstyle between the left and right ear pieces. I am hoping that the popularity of the iPhone 3GS and/or 3.0 with BT stereo is going to accelerate the demand for this. My friends over at Head-fi are probably rolling over in their graves :p

None will work with skip tracks control. Apple support page states that the BT profile they use for the iPhone 3.0 doesn't support it. So no matter what device we buy it will never work with forward/back track skip control. It's up to Apple to provide the function.

I have the Voyager 855s and they work well. Comfortable and it's nice to be able to use it just as a voice ear piece when you want. It also cost less than $40.
Note: BT pairing doesn't work great with Nike+ for jogging. Tends to skip but I think it's the Nike app that is causing the conflict.

BLUETREK ST1
No (From what I've read, this is currently a limitation of OS 3.0)
Yes
Yes (Note: also includes SRS WOW HD 3D Surround)
Because of the available SRS WOW Effects, they can sound better than the OEM wired headphones. Mind you, these won't by any means replace any high-end sets. Quality is also reduced simply by the fact that it's streaming wirelessly. That alone degrades quality.
Unless you get in-ear buds to replace them, they sound similarly to the OEM headphones, since they also do not sport the in-ear design. SRS WOW offers some bass-enhancing settings, however.
Not too different from my previous Plantronics Discovery 925 bluetooth earpiece, which is by far the best sounding one I've tried from the AT&T store.
The back of the neckband, which is where most of the bulk is, can get in the way of collars and/or hoods when you wear them and how you position it (or how it sits) on your head/neck.
You can easily get one for $25 and up.
I bought mine off of an eBay store (http://www.ebay.com) since TigerDirect (http://www.tigerdirect.com) was out of stock at the time.

What is the brand and model?
- Sony DRC-BT15
Do the skip forward/back buttons work with the iPhone?
- It does support AVRCP but not in iPhone OS3.0
What about the play/pause button?
-It does have play/pause button but iPhone OS 3.0 has bugs and may not work until you reset the iPhone 3GS
What about the volume controls?
- Of course! It is part of A2DP standard
Rate the sound quality on a scale of 1-10
- It varies as this model allows you to use any type of 3.5mm headsets. There are occation hickups especially when you just started the music. It's apple's fault though. I would rate 9 given that you use a good quality headphone.
Rate the bass on a scale of 1-10
- again that depends on your headphone. If you have a good quality headphone the bass is good and pretty strong.
Does it have a microphone? If so, how's the sound quality for the other person?
- this question is kind of stupid in 2009. A2DP devices nowadays all have mic. I tell u the voice quality is good but no noise cancellation.
Is there anything particularly annoying about it? (Bad battery life, bad range, difficult to pair, ugly, uses a dongle, cheap feeling, etc.)
It uses a dongle but this is the trade off to have your own custom headphones. Battery life is more than 6 hrs of continuous music and phone call. Depend on the headphone, Occationally you might hear EM noise from your cell phone when accessing the cell network.
The range depends on both your receiver and iPhone. iPhone does have 2.1+EDR so it is one of the best Bluetooth range cell phone I've used so far even compare to HTC, Nokia, and sonyericsson phones. Fortunately the DRC-BT15 is 2.0+EDR. I can use it like a cordless phone in my home across another room with walls for more than 24 feet and still have almost no choppiness. I can even walk to another floor and still able to listen to music.
How much does it generally cost?
MSRP now is $99 but you can get it a lot cheaper now. Maybe $80
If possible, please provide a link to a good place to buy them.

Why can't I play music through a "regular" bluetooth headset (Plantronics Discovery 925 - which is probably the most comfortable headset I have ever tried)? It's not a stereo headset but why doesn't it work?
The strange part is the VOICE MEMO app works fine through the regular BT headset but none of the iPod app music or podcasts play through a regular headset. All music & sounds worked fine on my Blackberry Bold with the same headet.

The Motorola HT820 is great, if you don't mind looking like Princess Leia.
1. Motorola HT820.
2. It has the capability of FF, Rew, Skip and Back, but not until Apple fully implements AVRCP (Audio Video Remote Control Profile) on the iPhone. This limitation is the same for all BT headsets that have those controls and is in the hands of Apple development.
3. Yes. Play/Pause works.
4. On headset volume control, with more than adequate volume to hear both stereo music and phone calls (in pseudo-stereo) over high ambient noise.
5. Sound Quality = 7 (good attached ear-pads help make the sound better).
6. Bass = 5 (It's much better bass than the Motorola S9, due to the larger speakers).
7. The mic is in the right headphone, facing down and forward. I find that unless I have a lot of ambient noise, I never have to talk above a normal level. (Note that on the S9, the mic is so close to one of the speakers that it turns off that speaker on phone calls, so you only get phone call audio in only one speaker. The HT820 provides all sound in both speakers all the time.) Note that if the noise level around me is high, cupping my right hand over my right cheek and headphone is usually more than enough to make it easy for the other party to hear me.
8. The only irritating thing about the HT820 is that you look like Princess Leia, when wearing them. The battery life is awesome. They pair easily. To make sure that they are paired, I always press Play, immediately after pairing them, even if I don't plan to listen to music right away. Only once have I had to re-pair immediately after turning them on. Once in a while, after lots of use and going between music and phone calls, the music will start to skip. A 10 second power off and on of the HT820 resolves that. The Apple Genius told me that it is an Apple issue, so I suspect that issue to go away with a future iPhone software release. The range is better than average. No dongle required. The HT820 feels more sturdy than most others that I have felt. You can toss them on the dining table, without worrying that they will break. You will probably want to turn off the annoying blue light on day one, but that's easy.
9. $42-$50 is common. This is an older unit than the S9, but people keep buying this one, because of the above listed limits on the S9. Since it is older the price is significantly lower than the S9.
10. Just Google "Motorola HT820". They are all over the place.
There is another very neat feature about the HT820. It has a sub-mini headphone jack on the back of the right headphone. That means that you can use it as a wired headphone (no mic), with the headphone power turned off. So, when you get on a plane and they tell you to turn off your Bluetooth devices, you can set you iPhone to Airplane Safe mode, turn off your HT820, plug in the included mini headphone to sub-mini headphone cable between your iPhone and HT820 and continue listening to music. Since it becomes just another wired headphone, you can also use the cable to listen to movies on the plane or on your Mac. If you fly a lot, then this is invaluable.
I am on my second HT820 headset. That should tell you how happy I am with them. I used my first set with my old cell phone and my old iPod, using the iMuffs dongle on the iPod, for 2 years. All of the HT820 controls worked with that setup. Therefore, I am sure that when Apple finally implements AVRCP, all of the controls will again become available. The reason for buying the second set is that the first set sat unused for a year, after I bought my iPhone and the battery will no longer hold a charge (it was not lasting as long as new, before that - 8 hrs of music vs 12 when new). A new unit was so cheap that I didn't even think about replacing the batteries. Besides, after two years of daily wear, the ear pads were beginning to show some wear, as well.
I rate them an 8. They lose a point for not having better bass and a point for making me look like Princess Leia. :D

I have them. They fit great and are very comfortable, but the only thing that works is volume. Play/pause doesn't work. The buttons are hard to press and in an awkward location. The sound is about a 7 .. I get some noise while listening to music. To be honest, I really haven't used them enough to give a decent review. I always end up going back to wired headphones + remote.

(Bad battery life, bad range, difficult to pair, ugly, uses a dongle, cheap feeling, etc.)occaisionally judders when first listening to them, then is fine but loses connection when in front pocket when running, however works fine when using a sports armband and in back pocket, volume could be louder.
9. How much does it generally cost? $60 on eBay
10. If possible, please provide a link to a good place to buy them. look on ebay
First bluetooth headphones i've used and am very impressed with them, have used them with a pc whilst on my turbo trainer and worked fine, thinking that maybe they judder to begin with on the iPhone as the bluetooth isnt that great. hoping for improvements in 3.1, ie ability to do voice control and skip to next track etc.... would recommend but have nothing to compare against!

Great thread!
I am looking for bluetooth headphones that I can go through a pretty strenuous workout in (lifting, running, sweating in the Texas heat, etc.). I prefer over the ear headphones like these http://www.amazon.com/Sony-MDR-G57G-Sports-Headphones-Reflective/dp/B000066CCU/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1248689354&sr=8-9 Only I want them in bluetooth
Here's the catch. I want to use them with my iPod Classic 120GB, not my iPhone :p So obviously a microphone is not important
I know Sony makes a bluetooth adapter for the iPod Classic. Could I buy any bluetooth headset and the Sony adapter and make it work?
I know this thread is oriented towards the iPhone so sorry if this is considered off topic :o Thanks for any suggestions!

What is the brand and model? Nokia BH-504 Bluetooth Stereo Headset Headphones.
Do the skip forward/back buttons work with the iPhone? Not yet, although they do have dedicated skip forward/back buttons.
What about the play/pause button? Play/Pause button works well.
What about the volume controls? Volume controls work well.
Rate the sound quality on a scale of 1-10: I rate them an 8 (comparing to my bose around-ear headphones, which I would also rate an 8)
Rate the bass on a scale of 1-10: I rate them an 8 (comparing to my bose around-ear headphones, which I would also rate an 8)
Does it have a microphone? If so, how's the sound quality for the other person? It does have a microphone. The other person can notice I'm not actually using the handset.
Is there anything particularly annoying about it? (Bad battery life, bad range, difficult to pair, ugly, uses a dongle, cheap feeling, etc.) So far, everything is great. Although I don't like how you can't charge it with USB.
How much does it generally cost? I found it on amazon for 80 dollars.

I've attached a small photo of the product. They're actually pretty small and can fold up. You can answer calls with a dedicated button and it will dim the music when the call comes in and resume playing once you hang up. It comes with a carrying case (pouch).

Is the s9-hd the same size as the regular motorola s9? I've tried on the s9's (the red/black colored model) awhile back at the AT&T store and unfortunately they are a bit too small for my head. I wear just about a size 8 :o They were very uncomfortable for my oversized noggin...

I know Sony makes a bluetooth adapter for the iPod Classic. Could I buy any bluetooth headset and the Sony adapter and make it work?
I can't speak for the Sony dongle, as I have not had any experience with it. But, before I got my iPhone, I used the iMuffs MA110 dongle, from Wi-Gear, with my iPod, cell phone and Motorola HT820 Bluetooth headset and I can strongly recommend the MA110.
As others have said here, the Motorola S9 comes with an iPod/iPhone dongle. But, the S9 has several limitations. It does not have FF/REW capability (only SKIP/BACK). As others have pointed out, it is quite uncomfortable, unless you have a small head. I know that you won't be using whatever you get with an iPhone. But for those who do, the S9 phone-call audio comes only from one earphone (The HT820 gives you mono phone-call audio from both speakers). This, combined with the low volume issues that others have mentioned about the S9, can make phone calls in noisy environments, difficult to hear. But most of all, the S9 has very poor battery life - 6 hrs. By contrast, the HT820 has a 15 hour battery life. Others come in at 8 to 10 hrs. The 6 hr battery life is pathetic.
My suggestion is to choose your headset, without consideration of the dongle and then buy the iMuffs MA110 dongle, from Wi-Gear. The MA110 is a little pricey, but it accepts all controls from the headset (Play, Skip, FF, etc.), has a good range, syncs to just about any Bluetooth headset (turn on the headphones first - then plug in the dongle) and draws power from the host device, without too much effect on battery life of the host device.
You might consider buying the original S9 (non-HD) headset, just to get the dongle that comes with it, since the price of the S9 is close to the price of the MA110. But I don't know if the Motorola dongle works with any other brand of headset, so I would strongly advise that you check on that, if you decide to go that route.
Unfortunately, I cannot recommend the Wi-Gear headset, for which the MA110 was originally designed. Among other things, they feel just a little bit flimsy, when compared to either the HT820 or the S9 and the ear pads are not as efficient at keeping out the outside noise (though some people may like that - I don't - I don't use them when I drive). The only thing that I really like about the iMuffs headset is that, like both the S9 and HT820, they are behind-the-neck :), rather than over-the-head, so you don't get "headphone hair." :(
Also, I should add that despite what I have said above, about the S9, I do like the S9-HD headphones, in general. The sound quality of the S9-HD, including bass, is now on a par with the larger HT820 (the original S9 was not as good). I am a stickler for good audio and I rate both the S9-HD and HT820 among the best of all of the Bluetooth headphones that I have tried (which is not to say that either is great - just among the best of the Bluetooth offerings). The S9 is a little uncomfortable for me, but I think that I could get used to it. I could even live with the phone-call audio coming from only one headphone. I just can't deal with the lower volume level and very poor battery life of either of the S9 models.
If Motorola would pump the max volume level up just 2db and make the battery compartment large enough for a decent sized battery, the S9-HD would be my first choice, since the missing FF/REW control on both S9s, is offset by the HT820's added size and Princess Leia look. :)
Oh, yes. I almost forgot. When using a dongle, you might want to turn the volume on your iPod all the way down. I don't know if it is a problem on the newer iPods, but on my older one, I could extend my battery life by an additional (approx.) 30 minutes, when using the dongle, by turning the iPod volume all the way down. I suppose that with the volume turned up, the iPod was still drawing a minimal amount of juice to try and power the wired headset that was not present. The difference was slight, but 30 minutes is 30 minutes.

I think the Nike+ frequency is close to (but not quite) the Bluetooth frequency, which could be causing the skipping.
EDIT: Both are apparently 2.4GHz frequencies:

Use my iPhone for business calls. My hearing is poor, particularly with ambient noise, even with volume set highest. To add to problem, earbuds don't seem to stay in. Ideally, I would like an in-ear BT headset with good sound quality and high volume setting. Given importance, price is not the issue. Any recommendations? Thank you.

I did some more research on my own, here is a link that I found to be really helpful: http://www.engadget.com/2009/04/03/ask-engadget-best-solution-for-bluetooth-stereo-audio/
I read through the comments and there are some very good opinions/reviews on quite a few headsets.
I ultimately settled for a pair of Sony's. The biggest factor in that decision was that the are styled like the pair of wired Sony's that I have used for years. I've got a big head and so fit was a big concern for me. Also the reviews seemed to be very good.
I found the headset and the iPod adapter for $80.00 on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Sony-DR-BT21IK-Wireless-Transmitter-Bluetooth/dp/B000ZN041C/ref=pd_sxp_grid_i_2_2

The Motorola HT820 is also easily convertible from stereo Bluetooth, with mic to wired stereo, without mic. It has been quite a while since I bought mine, but I believe that it came with the cable that I use every time I fly. You can only use it in wired mode, for listening to music. The mic in not operational through the wire.
On a plane, they require you to turn off Bluetooth devices, so I just turn off the power on the HT820, plug one end of the cable into the right headphone and the other end into either the plane's seat jack, my iPhone (in airplane mode) or into my 17" MB-Pro. Upon landing, I just unplug and store the cable, turn off airplane mode on the iPhone and turn on the HT820.

this is the best for me. great sounding behind the ears, forward, back, pause works because of the dongle. however,i tried having someone call me and it doesn't work well as it did with just the ipod. I forgot to mention i'm trying it out with the 3GS. my unit's 3 years old so the new ones may have been updated. I was going to order another one but unfortunately it/s OUT OF STOCK.

If your headset can play and pause the iPhone over Bluetooth, you can now skip tracks as well with Bluetooth Helper (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/bluetooth-helper/id351894223?mt=8), a $0.99 app in the app store.
Tap Play/Pause twice to skip to the next track, tap three times to skip previous. It works with the screen locked, and if you're jailbroken it works in the background as well.
I put the app out there due to my own frustrations. Apple hasn't given much for indications about when AVRCP will be fully supported, but this works in the meantime!

Hello abarna21.
I have one solution for you to Make phone calls and listen to music in style and convenience with the Lubix NC1 Stereo Bluetooth Headset. With support for Advanced Audio Distribution Profile A2DP and four built-in 3D sound modes, the Lubix NC1 headset makes a great pair of wireless headphones for listening to music in high-quality stereo. With Apple recently announcing that their iPhone 3.0 update will include support for stereo Bluetooth headsets, this should give you more satisfaction.

What is the brand and model?
Altec Lansing Backbeat 903
Do the skip forward/back buttons work with the iPhone?
Yes
I'm not sure how that can be (FWD/BACK buttons), since Apple does not support AVRCP (Audio Video Remote Control Profile) on the iPhone. The only way that FWD/BACK could work on a current iPhone, with any Bluetooth headset, would be with one of those not to be sufficiently cursed dongles.
I looked at the form factor for the 903 and it looks great. I also like most A/L products. I just wan to make sure that people know that the iPhone does NOT support AVRCP, at this time.
I'll stick with my Motorola HT820 for now. It does everything that the iPhone will allow, including PLAY/PAUSE, ANSWER/HANG-UP, REDIAL, VOLUME and it has by far, the longest battery life I have seen (14 hrs.). It also can be converted to wired use, on planes, by just turning it off and plugging the included mini-stereo cable into the headset and the other end of the cable into the iPhone (airplane mode), Mac or airplane audio jack. Of course, the mic doesn't work in wired mode, but who cares. The only time you will probably use it that way, is on a plane.
That was a big selling point for me, since I was maintaining a home in London and a home in Houston and flying between them a lot, when I bought my HT820 headset. I tried the S9 in a store in Houston and found it uncomfortable and the telephone-call audio only came from one earpiece. The HT820 gives you dual speaker mono sound on phone calls, which makes it much easier to hear, in noisy environments, like airports and malls.
The sound quality on the HT820 is above average. While it could be better, it's a quite acceptable trade off, to get that very long battery life.
What is the brand and model? Rocketfish(Bestbuy Brand) RF-MAB2
Do the skip forward/back buttons work with the iPhone? NO
What about the play/pause button? Yes
What about the volume controls? Yes
Rate the sound quality on a scale of 1-10 8 to 9. Not an audiophile, but had one listen and he was impressed. Has multiple settings for sound quality.

Does it have a microphone? Yes
If so, how's the sound quality for the other person?
No one even knows I'm on wireles headset.

Battery life is suppose to be 14 hours music and 12 hours talk.

Yes, it does. I ran a test using the voice recorder app and it sounded pretty good in a light breeze. Voice control dialing was foiled by a little stronger wind coupled with street noise.
8. Is there anything particularly annoying about it? (Bad battery life, bad range, difficult to pair, ugly, uses a dongle, cheap feeling, etc.)

Hi,
Just a heads up for those of you looking at Nokia BH-905 headphones. These are premium noise cancelling over-ear phones.
They worked great with iOS 4.0 but you cannot receive audio in iOS 4.1. There is a thread over on the Apple Support forums I have posted in - so far there are at least 7 of us (some with a 3GS others with iPhone 4 etc).
I am really annoyed. I paid £600 for the iPhone and £150 for the headphones. They now dont work together.

Can you link me to the thread? I was thinking of getting the BH-905's. Also, did you pressing the play button twice on the headset after it's paired? I remember reading, that's what you needed to do. That music would play from the iPhone speaker, but once you hit play once or twice on the headphones, it works. I could be mistaken, but that's what I thought I had read.

I have pressed Play about 500 times ;-)
In 4.0 it was a little 'flaky' and it was necessary to press Play a few times until the connection was made. in 4.1 it connects (by connect I mean you get the 'Audio Output' icon at the bottom right where you chose Speaker or the BT device) quicker but you never get music out.
The 'Solution' posted in that thread does not work. It doesn't even make sense - you have to choose the Audio output (speaker or BT device) it does not flip between them by pressing play.

The Mi-Sport VBT bluetooth headphones seem to provide a unique solution for listening to music wirelessly, whilst still remaining connected to your phone.
Apparently you can put 4gb worth of I-Tunes music directly onto the headphones, [so no signal drop out and better depth of bass]. You then get voice cues to guide you through playlists and albums and fast forward and rewind within a track, but still stay linked to your phone for calls via the bluetooth. Navigation through your music is therefore far better. The volume control works as well for the incoming call. It`s also fully waterproof for the gym - or swimming.
This appears to be a one off and I have seen no other headphones using this method.

I have the Motorola S805 bluetooth headphones.
http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-S805-Bluetooth-Stereo-Headset/dp/B000JHKU72
They are bulky but are very comfortable for extended periods of use. I use them all the time on flights and leisure listening and never had any pain, they have decent sound isolation as well.
Sound quality is as good as any set of headphones I've tried, but I've never had any really expensive headphones to compare to.
All controls work with the 4.1 iOS update on my iPhone. It's absolutely fantastic to be able to leave the phone in my pocket and control every aspect of the music from the headphones.
Microphone quality is good enough, I've never had any one complain about hearing me.
Battery life is very good as well. I can use these for a week, several hours each day before I have to recharge.
The two things I don't like are the rubber cover over the charge port: it's annoying to get back in place. And I don't like that it defaults to having a blinking blue light when on and playing. This can be turned off by holding both the call and pause buttons for a few seconds, but it's annoying to have to do that each time I turn it on and connect to the phone.
I would highly recommend them.

Cheers.
I found one on ebay too but the result is a bit different with the above....
1. Motorola S9-HD (White/Blue)
2. Yes, it works with iphone 4 but not with iphone 3GS
3. Play/Pause is not working when the album is ended (can not replay the album)
4. Volume works okay
5. 4, sound quality is not too clear
6. 2, almost no bass
7. mic is okay, I don't have to yell like when I am using speakerphone on 3GS or iPhone 4
8. It hurts my ear when I use it for longer time (more than 30 minutes) and it tends to slip off my ear a bit (I realized when the sounds become softer after a while)
9. Mine is fake from China (I guess!... It was like $100 item when I bought it for $30) -- hint: 3D SRS WOW doesn't work; Bass doesn't work.... It's about $30 from ebay
10. Ebay.... just search... bought it about 6 months ago
Additional: You can't use it while you lay on your bed as the back side with push the headset...
Pairing is a bit of an issue.... If I pair them with iphone 4, it can connect to it easily but when I pair them with Macbook Pro... they will stop working with iphone 4 unless I pair it again... and it goes the same for macbook pro....

If you would like some update... back and forward function is now works with the latest iOS (I've tried this on iPhone 4).

Neither IMO.....
I had several threads comparing portable stereo headsets a year or so back.
Those two brands didn't even make my short-list.*
After lengthy/obsessive research, the Senn. MM100's (if there's a new rev get it) came out on top.
I wanted them mainly for use on my iTouch4G, so output quality was more important than input.
Having said that, the mic. is still acceptable....
I don't have time to go into any more detail than that, sorry.
If you've any specific Qns about the MM100, then I may be able to help.
Unsubscribing from this thread so you'll have to PM me.
*actually I think Plantronics was at one point.

Thank youI have the Backbeat 906 and if you're looking for small portable BT headphones they are acceptable. I only use them for listening to music on the go. I've had them for two years and the volume switch is starting to not work properly. I'm looking for a new set that I can use while working out and traveling. If someone has a link to an updated list please post.

donkezz, I can't tell you about either of those headsets. But I can tell you that I am still quite pleased with my Motorola HT820 BT stereo headset.
1) It works perfectly with the 4S. One push of the button on the left headphone and Siri responds. You speak and Siri responds.
2) Phone calls are heard in two speaker mono (from both ears) which means that you can more easily understand what the other person is saying, when you're in a noisy environment.
3) Play/Pause/FF/REW/Skip/Back buttons all work.
4) It comes with a cable for use on airplanes. You can turn off the BT, plug in the cable and plug the other end into your 4S (in Airplane mode) and listen to your music or movies as a wired headset. You can also plug it into the plane's audio system (some require an adaptor) and listen to the plane's movies or music on a headset that is far better than what the airline provides.
5) Also, the battery lasts forever… or so it seems (about 14 hours)
The down-side is that when you're wearing the HT820, you look like Princess Leia.
I almost forgot. If you have a Mac, you can pair it with the Mac and use it for Skype phone calls and iTunes music. But that seems to run the battery down a little faster.
I don't know if the HT820 is still made. But the last time I bought a pair (my second set), they were only about $80, online. I have actually considered buying another set, as a spare, since I completely wore out my first set and I use my second set heavily.

I prefer a design similar to the Backbeat 906 or Motorola S10 HD which don't use a dongle or box hanging from them. Are there any other options out there with a similar design?

The Jaybird Freedoms do not use a dongle:

I've had mine since July and really like them. They are light, sweat resistant, and do not pop out of the ear if you use the extra ear pieces. The sound is good also. They are also very portable as they are just 2 small pieces connected together by a thick (but flexible) wire.
I also have the Motorola S10-HD, but I find the fit is not that good as they tend to pop out of the ear when running. You also cannot lay down as the stiff band gets in the way. These headphones are not pocketable (like the jaybirds) due to the stiff band.

This discussion is extremely interesting!
When you recommend a set, please include if it has buttons for forward, reverse, step ahead/reverse, activate Siri, etc.
I have bought two headsets that I'm now returning:
Plantronics 903+
+ Good sound.
+ Good BT range.
- Cause pain to my ears where they rest.
- Buttons are too hard to press with ease.
- Doesn't have a Fast Forward/Reverse button/function.
- Entire headset takes too much space, it's impossible to lean backwards against a pillow for example.
Jabra Sports
+ Very good sound (when pressing the speakers to the ears).
+ Fits perfectly around the head.
+ Very light.
- Doesn't fit my earchannel, which means that the sound is terrible when they just leans on the ears.
- No button/function for activating Siri.
- No button/function for Fast Forward/Reverse
HTH
----------
One more thing, my wishlist:
- In-ear
- Button as on wired headsets, ie pause, step forward/back, activate Siri.
- Lightweighted and small.
Can in it be that hard...? :(
